Not everyone wants a plain scarf.

This one is for those who love colour, texture and character of handmade things.

Created from a collection of luxury fibres including wool, silk, bamboo, flax and rose. Each section is unique.

The fibres were spun in a playful fashion, going with the flow, making thick and thin yarn and textures.

Colours were chosen instinctively from my fibre stash, allowing unlikely combinations to come together in a way that couldn’t have been planned. Creating a truly unique wearable arwork.

There will only ever be one like this.

First Attempt In Learning!
While it looks nothing like the beautiful and skillfully made works of the historic Horsehair hand weavers of Market Drayton, I thoroughly enjoyed working with this medium.
Having never attempted to weave with horsehair before I’m pretty pleased with the result and learnt lots from the process.
Even going as far as having a child hand me each strand as they would have done in the mill before 1880!

Thank you to Market Drayton Museum and Resource Centre for the opportunity to demonstrate.

Horsehair weaving is now a Critically Endangered Heritage Craft.

Passing on even a touch of knowledge and skill ensures future generations gain skill and deeper understanding of what life was like for their ancestors.
