♻️ Who needs expensive site furniture when you have empty cable reels? 😂

One of the less glamorous parts of installing a home cinema is spending hours working close to the floor. Kneeling, crouching and sitting on the floor soon takes its toll!

So, we decided to turn some empty Webro Cable & Connectors reels into our own little home cinema installation seats.

A bit of padding, some of our home cinema fabric and voilà! Comfy little seats that are perfect for working down at floor level. 😎

A simple bit of recycling that actually works really well. And much kinder on the knees!

A tidy desk… well, sort of! 😂

Working in home cinema design and installation means my workspace tends to collect things.

Cables, connectors, samples, design books, drawings, acoustic materials and all the little bits and pieces that go into building a great cinema room.

So today I decided it was time for a proper tidy-up and rearrange.

I’ve cleared some space, organised the equipment and made room for the home cinema design and building materials that were taking over my desk.

It’s amazing how much easier it is to think when your workspace is organised.

Now I just need to keep it that way! 😁

Back on the Sonos training! 🔊

Yesterday I spent some time training with my son Jamie on the new Sonos Amp Multi at Pulse Cinemas

✅ Sonos is a product I know particularly well. During my time in Thailand, I was the Sonos distributor for many years and was personally involved with installations in probably 1,000+ rooms, so it was great to get back into the technical side and see what the latest generation of products can do.

✅ Things have moved on a lot, and the new Amp Multi brings some interesting possibilities for distributed audio and whole-home systems - It's a Pro install only product and is very exciting.

✅ More and more I'm being asked to complete multi-room audio and networking for my home cinema clients, this new Pro equipment from Sonos will be great!

Even better, I got to do the training alongside Jamie. Passing on the knowledge and experience I've built up over more than 20 years in AV and smart home installations is something I really enjoy.

There's always something new to learn in this industry, and there's no better way to stay sharp than getting hands-on with the latest technology.

Sonos + experience + the next generation. A good combination! 🎵

A little bit of Rackwork today 🎬

Working on the Sanus AV rack today for one of our latest home cinema projects. I wanted to get a really good idea of what the finished rack is going to look like and so I got some front panels of the Anthem & MadVR equipment printed up and fitted the prints to some Eziblock panels.

I then gave them a light coat of gloss to protect the prints and, more importantly, give them that shiny finish you get from real amplifier fascias. Once they were dry, I fitted them into the Sanus rack.

This was all in aid to visualise the finished installation. I can now see exactly how the equipment is going to sit in the rack before the real kit goes in.

Of course, I made a few mistakes along the way! 😂

✅ I printed the amplifiers slightly too big
✅ Also managed to leave a few fingerprints on some of the prints before I glossed them. You can see them if you look closely.

A bit of trial and error today, but I’m really pleased with how it’s starting to come together. Plus these are reusable.

Every project starts in SketchUp, allowing us to design the room, test different layouts and show our clients exactly how their new space will look before any work begins.

Our 3D models help us:
• Find the best screen size and seating positions
• Position speakers for the best possible sound
• Plan lighting, star ceilings and acoustic treatments
• Choose colours, fabrics and finishes
• Identify potential issues before installation starts

We also produce realistic renders, so you can visualise the finished room with confidence. It makes design decisions much easier and helps ensure the final result matches your expectations.

A well-designed space isn't just about great equipment. It's about creating a space where everything works together perfectly.

Speaker Cable delivery today for some or our projects coming up this month.

Big thanks to Webro and Shane Caswell for getting them all through to us so quickly.

We have 2 different types of cable for 2 quite different installs.

- 12/2 cable for a home cinema install we are doing featuring Anthem amplification and Paradigm speakers. The thicker cable helps with the low end and dynamics.

- 16/2 for a sound system install for a building companys HQ that feature a gym, golfing simulation room and mini Diner. It's not critical listening and the 16/2 is a thinner cable which will be easier to run>

Not all renders are created equal… 🎬

When we design a home cinema, we often start with a quick render in SketchUp. It’s fast, flexible, and perfect for:

✔️ Testing layouts
✔️ Playing with room dimensions
✔️ Exploring seating positions and screen sizes
But a quick render only tells part of the story.

Once we move into a fully lit, more realistic render, everything changes:

✨ Lighting brings the room to life
✨ Materials start to feel real — fabrics, panels, finishes

And it’s true — darker colours help absorb light, reduce reflections, and give you that true cinematic experience.
