✨️ Staverton Project ✨️

One of the things I love most about creating visuals like this is helping clients see the finished feeling of a space before anything is purchased or installed.

In this scheme I’ve layered warm neutrals, classic silhouettes and soft textures to create a calm, timeless room that feels elegant but still comfortable for everyday living.

Symmetry, soft lighting and natural materials all work together to give the space that relaxed modern country feel.

Visuals like this are especially helpful in new builds or renovations where it can be difficult to imagine how a blank room will eventually look and feel

I've gotten to the point where there is no mistaking that our next little project is well underway 🩵

Turns out the biggest thing I have been creating this year isn’t an interior…

Baby Monson-Smith #2 is on the way. Our family is growing, and our little cheeky Chester is going to be a big brother. Were all so excited.

I’ll be taking maternity leave from June, so I only have limited availability left before then and will mainly be taking on smaller projects alongside my existing workload.

Thank you so much to all of my lovely clients for keeping me so busy. It means the world!

Modern country living room plans ✨️

Here’s the vision for my own living room 👀 I’ve always loved colour and how one bold choice can set the tone for an entire space.

My signature approach is to start with calm, greyed off tones as the base, then layer in warm woods and touches of modern black to keep everything feeling balanced and timeless.

Real life though… I have a toddler, so new sofas aren’t exactly practical right now. Instead, I like to plan ahead and design the full scheme so I can slowly invest in the right pieces over time.

There’s something really satisfying about knowing what you’re working towards. Saving for that one special piece, adding beautiful accessories along the way, and letting your home evolve naturally.

Homes don’t have to be finished overnight. The slow build is part of the joy 🤍

Ever noticed how some paint colours just feel calm?

I’m always drawn to chalky, greyed off tones. The kind of colours that quietly change with the light throughout the day. They never feel loud or overpowering, just soft and timeless.

These are some of my favourite, go-to blue paint shades. Muted, relaxed and perfect for creating that modern country feel I love so much.

Which one is your favourite?

Nursery scheme for an East Facing room 🌅

The aim was to create something soft, warm, and full of character so this space didn't feel like a typical new build.

I’ve layered in v-groove panelling, the sweetest brown gingham wallpaper, a warm neutral paint, natural wooden furniture, and a textured jute rug to ground everything.

It’s calm, cosy and timeless… proof that even the blankest new build room can feel full of charm with the right layers.

P.s My top tip to all those expecting... get a floor bed for your little one once they transition from next to me. We have used this exact bed for my little boy, and he was in it from 5m to now nearly 3 years and beyond. One investment. And a bed we can snuggle up together in.

Two visuals, same idea.

The second visual is how I used to present my designs using digital Photoshop boards. The first is AI enhanced. Helping bring the space to life that bit more.

So many of my clients tell me they really struggle to visualise, especially in new builds where everything feels flat and featureless at first. I’m always working on improving how I present ideas so you can truly see the potential of your space before making decisions.
I’d love to know which you find more helpful to understand the room?

Small details that quietly elevate a new build.

Show homes don’t feel polished because they’re expensive. They feel polished because the details have been considered.

It’s often the things people leave until last that make the biggest difference: thoughtful sockets and switches, cohesive ironmongery, oversized statement lighting that sets the scale of a room, and flooring choices that flow well from space to space.

Worktops, sinks, and taps matter more than people realise, and small material decisions, like avoiding stainless steel splashbacks, can instantly soften and elevate a kitchen.

None of this needs to be rushed. In fact, getting these details right works best when you slow down and understand the space first.

This is where a designer eye really earns its keep. Not through big gestures, but through lots of small, considered decisions that add up to a home that feels finished.

✨️ Aston le Walls project ✨️

This key items mood board was created for a self-build project where I designed both the open plan living space and this snug room. The brief was to create a space that felt calm, inviting, and beautifully curated.

Nothing here is overly decorative or trend led, but the sense of character comes from layering. Subtle texture, thoughtful pattern, gentle contrast, considered lighting, and a deeply relaxing, cohesive palette. Each element has a purpose, and together, they create depth without clutter.

This approach works especially well in new builds, where the architecture is often simple. You don’t need to overhaul everything. You need the right decisions made in the right order.

This is the type of design support I offer through my online service, helping clients add character and confidence to their homes without costly mistakes.

Expectation vs. reality of moving into a new build.

The show home is finished. Real life isn’t.

If the later images feel familiar, you’re not alone. Those photos are our own home when we first moved in. Bare bulbs (some rooms still have them), no window dressings, and in our case no flooring either. Just a long list of “we’ll do that later”.

Many of my clients have been in their homes 2/3 years before they call in my help, and the latter pictures are the norm. It's what I expect to see when I get invited to a new-build consultation.

Creating a polished, characterful space takes time, planning, and lived-in understanding.

Over the next few posts, I’ll be sharing guidance specifically for new builds, including how we’ve slowly added depth and character to our own home without rushing or making costly mistakes. Good homes are built thoughtfully, not overnight.

Merry Christmas!

As the year gently comes to a close, I just wanted to say a huge thank you to every client who trusted me with their home this year.

I have had the pleasure to work on a full family home renovation, full of personality and character. A modern light filled new build designed for everyday living, and then homes that were in need of thoughtful refreshes that prove you do not always need a full renovation to make a space feel new again. It has been such a joy bringing these homes to life, each one shaped around the people who live there.

This year has been one of growth and I feel incredibly grateful to be doing work that feels so personal and purposeful. Because of your trust in me, I am able to live my career dreams everyday, while being present and flexible around being a mum.

Wishing you all a peaceful Christmas, full of warmth, laughter and time at home with the people you love.
