Studio Lucie Professional furniture upcycler based in Marlow, Buckinghamshire. Commissions welcome! MEET THE MAKER | LUCIE VASSILIOU

Hello and welcome to my page!

I’m a Buckinghamshire-based professional furniture painter and upcycler, and I pride myself on providing my clients with beautiful, bespoke painted furniture. Over the past 10+ years, having creativity and sustainability at the heart of my business, I have upcycled hundreds of furniture pieces which have found their new homes all over the UK. I’m passionate about furniture painting, interior desig

n, all things vintage, colour, as well as incorporating various art mediums in my designs, such as papers, stencils, decoupage, gilding waxes, gold leafs etc. I love transforming old, dated furniture into desirable and elegant pieces and giving them a new lease of life. Re-love and re-use is my motto, and my aim is to make people appreciate the value of good-quality, well-made old furniture instead of throwing them away and filling up the landfills! Creativity and crafting were always a big part in my life ever since I was a little girl. Apart from spending a serious chunk of my childhood at my parents' architectural practice helping around with various jobs (and without realising it, gaining priceless work experience in design!), I also remember myself always sketching scenes from everyday life in this small sketchpad using charcoal or coloured pencils, making handmade bunting out of sea shells, or hand-sewing all my dolls' clothes myself. Academically, however, I had chosen to start out my career path in quite a different way. I first studied History & Politics at university and then went on to receive an MA in International Relations. After having worked at the UN initially and then at various academic establishments in the area of communications and events, I finally felt ready to turn a new page in my life and turn my hobby and passion into a business! Though I would upcycle furniture from earlier on, I established the business in 2014 after becoming a mum and after we moved out of London, where flexibility and working around my son's life schedule became paramount. I get a buzz out of finding and working with old (or outdated), vintage pieces of furniture, breathing new life back into them and then finding them a new home. A large amount of my work is, however, client commissions! I would love to hear from you if you have a piece of furniture that is crying out for a new look and lease of life. For any questions or simply to have an informal chat, please get in touch with me. I'd love to hear from you. [email protected]

✨ From plain pine to princess-worthy perfection! ✨

One of my favourite transformations to date is ready to leave the Studio... and I couldn’t be more in love with her! 💕

This beautiful wardrobe began life as a simple pine piece, but after lots of love, creativity and attention to detail, it’s been completely reimagined as a soft pink statement wardrobe for a very special little girl’s bedroom.

Painted in the dreamiest combination of ‘Sofia’ and ‘Nap Time’ by , with elegant brass k***s from and adorned with the sweetest scalloped drawer detailing from , every element was chosen to create something truly magical. ✨

Open the doors and you’ll discover another surprise — the interior has been lined with the gorgeous ‘Fairy Flowers’ wallpaper by , creating a whimsical little world hidden inside. 🌸

This was a commissioned piece for a lovely client, and I genuinely poured my heart into every brushstroke. Watching a tired piece of furniture transform into something so unique never gets old, and if I’m honest, I would have absolutely dreamed of having a wardrobe like this in my bedroom growing up! 💭💗

Now all that’s left is for its new owner to fill it with favourite dresses, treasures and childhood memories. I hope she loves it as much as I loved creating it.
What do you think of this transformation? ✨

Hold a UK-wide briefing on climate and nature risks:

The UK faces growing risks from climate and nature breakdown - from extreme weather to economic disruption and national security threats. Yet the public has never been given a clear national briefing on the scale of these risks. Government should hold an emergency briefing from leading experts.

Design process?
A design for me starts first in my head and then has to go down on paper before being finalised! I’m a visual person.
What do you think of this?
