Homestead Creative Hi I’m Karen, an Orcadian based in Mirfield, West Yorkshire. I make beautiful handmade Footstools and Wall Hangings. Commissions welcome 😊 We love chairs!

We love to breathe life into tired old chairs with beautiful fabrics and reinvigourated woodwork. Homestead Upholstery is a small but developing upholstery business based in Mirfield, West Yorkshire. It was set up in 2014 by Karen Knowles who is passionate about chairs. We specialise in taking unloved vintage and retro chairs and giving them a new life by bringing them right back up to date without losing their original charm. We strip them back to the frame removing old fabric and any tired fillings. We give the woodwork some TLC with lovely rich wax then build them back up again using high quality materials. Finally (and most importantly), we add gorgeous fabrics to create beautiful one off chairs. Have a look at our gallery to see some of the work we have done.

The night are drawing in and that can only mean one thing - beautiful sunsets and if you are really lucky the aurora borealis!

This piece will be cut it into 3 mini hangers and there will be 3 sunsets too!

I’m really enjoying making these as I can see the fruits of my labour much quicker.

Have a great weekend whatever you’re up to! I’m seeing the marvellous Miriam Margolyes in Bradford this evening! Karen x

Work in progress - a peedie blackbird on a wall. I love watching them in the garden hopping about. I’ll hopefully get this finished today before I head to the airport.

I’m heading home to Orkney for a much needed family time and plenty of sea air!

Let me know what you’re up to this weekend. Have a good one whatever you’re doing! Karen x

I’ve finished the monochrome minis. I’m really pleased with them. I’ll pop them in my shop tomorrow morning.

They measure approx w:9cm x h:40cm and are £45 including UK P&P.

I love the Ellen Baker fabric on the back. It’s important they look good on both sides!

Have a lovely Thursday whatever you’re doing! Karen xx

Happy Tuesday! How’s everyone today?

Monochrome mini hangers are underway today at Homestead HQ. I do like a splash of colour though so have added a hint of colour to one.

Give me a like and a 🌈 or 🖤 in the comments if you see this post and let me know if you prefer black & white or a splash of colour.

The sun is shining in Mirfield today and it feels lovely and warm. The grass has been mowed and many loads of washing are out on the line.

I’ve just updated my peedie shop with the mini hangers - check them out.

How’s everyone today? What’s on this weekend? I’m out for dinner at the fabulous Norman’s Neighbourhood Kitchen tonight for some awesome food!

I had hoped to finish 3 bird inspired mini homestead hangers by today but time got away from me. I have finished the oyster catcher and the curlew is underway. What should the third bird be? 🤔

It’s been so nice to get back into work with these minis. I hope you like them!

Have a great day whatever you’re up to. Karen x

Hello Folks! 👋🏻

Happy October 🎃 🍂 🍁

How’s everyone today? It’s hard to believe that we are 3/4 of the way through 2026 already!

The shops are starting to fill with festive gifts so I thought I should focus my efforts and start making things for my online shop too. Keep your eyes peeled 👀

If you are looking for special gifts then please support small and local businesses and artists.

It doesn’t have to cost a penny! Every like, comment or share on social media can help promote a small business and allow new people to find them! 🥰

Right, back to my sewing machine - more minis underway today.

Don’t forget I still make footstools too! 🧡

Have a great day! Karen x

Happy hump day! How’s everyone today?

Here’s 3 more mini bangers that will be available in my peedie online shop on Friday. Let me know what you think of these cute cottages.

They measure approx h:39cm x w:8cm and will be £40 plus p&p. Each has a piece of driftwood found by me in Orkney.

They come boxed with a handwritten postcard - you can even add your own message.

They make a great gift or why not just treat yourself 🥰

Have a great day! Karen xx
