Three beautiful skies by John Constable. Boy did he understand clouds! Visiting Christchurch Mansion Ipswich yesterday I realised what a special gift it has been to have some of his greatest paintings ( not shown here) here for the summer. Seeing as it was an impromptu visit I didn’t have the right glasses with me so all that lovely standing back and surveying the whole scene could only be partly and very hazily enjoyed! Instead I went up very close and became enchanted and in awe with things I had never seen before; not only children and cows and far off views I had never noticed but the marks on the canvas - the incredibly inventive way he vividly re creates the leaves on a tree, the light on a house wall and brings to sparkling life some splashing water. What hit me as soon as I got close was how much JC loved what he was painting. His relationship with his surroundings was / is palpable. He has known it over a long time. His paintings are born of love and relationship. Especially so with his Suffolk paintings ( I would say.) I didn’t photograph the big paintings btw as it could not possibly do justice. Exhibition closes October 4th. Closed on Mondays and Fridays. I am going back with my other glasses next week!

I was just drinking in the colours on this visit to bohemianblooms in Faulkland Somerset. They grow their own flowers for fresh and dried purposes. I was getting some last minute blooms to beautify the church for my mums funeral and then looked upwards - heaven! I know I work with glass but what came to mind was - if I was a weaver this would be the start of a new rug! 🤔

At Wyken this evening…. (I think it’s the photo that’s a bit crooked). Looking forward to going back when the sun is shining but the clouded over early evening works too.

The new arrival has finally emerged…completing the group of 3. I think I like the way it’s gone a bit wilder and even messy in places and when I opened up the kiln I found myself almost laughing. So the conversation between the three is changing or maybe a new one begins. They can be seen at Art for Cure at Wyken Hall from May 2nd - June 28th.

I popped in to see this after a check up at Ipswich Hospital ( all good). I was reminded how lucky I was to make a piece for this space - the family waiting area of the critical care unit. So important to add soulfulness to hospital spaces where we can spend some of our most vulnerable moments.

The Sabi part of Wabi Sabi translates as: the beauty that comes with age, wear and the passage of time. That is precisely what has been the inspiration, the calling for making these pieces. I know you have seen two already but I always wanted a third and here it is - still a work in progress, bringing shadows into the picture. They are intended to be a group, in conversation you could say. They will be on view throughout May and some of June .
