Two years. A self build. A new baby in the middle of it.
Not every project runs to schedule and not every brief stays the same from start to finish. That is the reality of building a home around a life that keeps moving.

What matters is that when the project completes, the home feels right. Personal. Considered. Completely them.

A floorplan is the most underestimated document in a renovation.

People think it's just a drawing. It's not. It's where you discover what your space is actually capable of and where ideas that would never have occurred to you suddenly become obvious.

One of my favourite moments in a project is when a client sees the floorplan and realises the space they thought they had is so much more than they imagined.

That mezzanine that transformed a hallway extension. The en-suite that only made sense once the bedroom layout changed.

These aren't happy accidents, they're what good spatial thinking looks like on paper, before it becomes bricks and mortar.

Not every brief calls for light and neutral. Some call for depth, warmth and the kind of atmosphere that makes a space feel like a destination. A place to gather with family and friends, any time of day.

This palette was chosen deliberately.
Every finish, every fitting, every material considered in the context of the whole space before anything was ordered.

When the thinking has been done properly, it just feels right.

She already had good taste. That was never the question.

The question was why the room still didn't feel like her. The palette was right. The proportions were fine. But something wasn't landing and she couldn't quite say what it was.

It turned out to be a few things working against each other. The layout wasn't making the most of the space. It lacked the warmth she was looking for. There was nowhere for the eye to rest and nothing that felt considered enough to hold the room together.

Within her LABODE portal, she had everything she needed before a single order was placed.

The floor plan. The revised layout. Elevations showing exactly how each wall would look.
And a curated product guide with every piece selected for her space, her aesthetic and her budget, so every purchase was made with complete confidence.

Lamps, a rug, textured cushions, artwork, a console, a coffee table, panelling to the TV wall and a shelf that gave it structure.

Every piece considered. All of it intentional.
The room didn't need a renovation.

A room can look stunning in a photograph and feel completely wrong to live in.

The wrong layout.
The wrong flow.
Lighting that flattens the space.

Most conservatories in the UK are used for about six weeks of the year.
Too cold in January. Unbearable in July. Full of things that don't quite belong anywhere else.

This family had exactly that. A dated conservatory that wasn't really serving anyone. So they replaced it with something that does.

A full glass extension with modern roof windows and floor to ceiling glazing on two sides. The garden comes in from every angle. The light changes beautifully throughout the day.

The boundary wall became a full media wall in Farrow and Ball Pitch Black. Wood shelving either side. An electric glass fire with a real flame beneath the screen. The focus wall that makes a room feel like it was always meant to be exactly this.

Lighter walls in Stoney Ground. Karndean wood floor running throughout. A cream U-shaped sofa completely focused on what the room is actually for..

Watching films together, with a coffee table in the centre and enough cushions and throws for a cosy evening under the stars.

During the day the room shifts. Two relaxed armchairs and a tall bar table for coffee, a laptop, a quiet half hour.

Textured cushions in dark brown and rust. Beautiful green plants. Rustic vases, pots and ornaments that make it feel genuinely lived in rather than dressed for a photograph.

This family now spend most of their time here.

That is the only measure of a room that matters.
