It’s been nearly three years since I last introduced myself on here, so I thought it was about time I said hello again! 👋
I’m Rachel, the person behind Fait par Moi, and I’m much happier making lampshades than having my photograph taken… but here goes! 😂
After 30 years in the corporate world, redundancy came along at the end of 2018.
I’ve always been a creative person, so rather than seeing it as a setback, I saw it as an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. A chance to do something completely different and turn my love of making things into a business.
And that’s how Fait par Moi began! ❤️
Nearly eight years later, I’m surrounded by more fabric than I probably need (although there’s always room for more!), creating everything from classic lampshades to bold, colourful statement pieces.
Has it all been plain sailing? Absolutely not! Running a small business certainly has its ups and downs, but I love the creative freedom and the fact that no two days are quite the same.
I’ve had some lovely surprises along the way, including seeing my lampshades appear on Emmerdale, BBC Doctors and The Hairdresser Mysteries. It’s quite surreal spotting something you’ve made on television!
But one of the things I enjoy most is still seeing my creations in your homes. Knowing something I’ve made with my own two hands has found its perfect place is a wonderful feeling.
If you’ve followed me for a while, you’ll already know I have a weakness for William Morris, beautiful fabrics and anything with a bit of personality!
