Today marks one year since I became the owner of Beyond Canvas Framing.
One year...
Which means 12 months ago I thought:
“Yes. Sensible. Let’s leave a stable career, buy a framing shop and have more time for doing the things I love to do.”
What could possibly go wrong?
In fairness — quite a lot could have. And occasionally did.
There were weeks of learning new machinery, deciphering supplier codes, reorganising back rooms that hadn’t seen daylight in years, and discovering that running a small business is essentially a combination of optimism, spreadsheets, good neighbours and coffee...
But there have also been:
✔️Brilliant customers trusting me with irreplaceable things
✔️Frames that transformed artwork completely
✔️The launch of new professional art services
✔️Working with fantastic local artists, photographers, and interior designers
✔️Getting nominated and being a finalist for Best Retailer of the Year
✔️Building an overflow workshop in Crewe (because apparently one space wasn’t enough)
✔️And countless conversations that remind me why high streets still matter
It’s been exhausting. Encouraging. Occasionally terrifying.
But mostly — worth it.
If you’ve brought something in to frame, recommended the shop, shared a post, or simply stopped for a chat — thank you. You’re part of this first year.
Year one was “let’s see if this works.”
Year two is “let’s see what this can become.”
Onwards.
