✨ From Knitting to Weaving: A Cowl Transformed! ✨
I recently set out to knit a cowl using some of my hand spun art yarn, paired with a ball of Rowan Cocoon from my stash. Though the yarns looked stunning together, they just didn’t sing in the knitting. The textures and colours I loved seemed lost. At the same time I saw a post from taking scarf off the loom 💡 So, I turned to my rigid heddle loom for a solution!
I warped the loom with fine yarns in various colours from my stash, adding a touch of hand-dyed chenille with pops of gold for warmth. For the weft, I randomly striped my hand spun art yarn, chenille, and Rowan Cocoon, keeping the fabric soft and squishy by not beating the weft too firmly.
The result? Exactly what I envisioned! The scarf’s texture is beautifully soft, and the hand spun yarn shines in the weave in ways it didn’t in knitting.
The blend of textures and colours created a wearable piece of fibre art, with the art yarn adding just the right amount of personality.
🧶 Why Weaving Works for Small Stashes
This project reminded me why hand-weaving is perfect for using small amounts of yarn! Combining different fibres and textures lets you make every bit count, turning your stash into something special.
