15% off at www.cottagecoppicing.co.uk In the winter of 2011, I was recuperating from a dog bite I received while working in my then-dog-walking and pet-sitting business. With a shared interest in the outdoors, my dad invited me to spend a couple of days with him in an NRW woodland that he was restoring into a working hazel coppice. I was hooked! What is coppicing? You can find out more here. https://www.cottagecoppicing.co.uk/what-is-coppicing

After the first winter, the idea of making products to sell bore out of hate of waste and ever-increasing piles of wood! Fast forward 14 years, and I now spend my winters restoring a local 9-acre ancient semi-natural woodland and the rest of the year in my industrial unit making the products you find in my shop. I make everything. Self-taught, or should I say ‘Dad-taught,’ I took to woodworking and wished I’d taken it up earlier. Sustainability is important to me. All the wood used in my work is from sustainable sources or FSC-certified businesses (Forest Stewardship Council). I coppice the round wood such as hazel, ash, and cherry myself in the woodland I manage. I occasionally buy in branch wood from local tree surgeons from small garden jobs. I use ash and oak timber from my local timber yard, Wentwood Timber Centre, and American white oak or beech from FSC-certified Mon Timber Supplies. For the most part, I can tell you exactly which woodland the item you purchased initially came from. If made from hazel, I can practically take you to the tree! While practical, my products are bought emotionally; customers love a piece that resonates with them. Knowing the history of the work is part of that love affair. Even the elements I make from bought-in timber have a history; the local timber yard will know the woodland it came from or the country of origin. Collaboration

I love working with other local businesses. All my personalised products are engraved by a beautiful local company, Bespoke Laser UK. View my work. Please take a look through my shop - new products get added regularly. https://www.cottagecoppicing.co.uk/

If you can’t find what you are looking for, message me , and I will try my best to help. If I can’t, I might be able to point you toward someone who can. Best wishes,
Lisa

How cute would this look sitting on a shelf in their nursery? A decoration you can bring out every year and one they can play with when they're older. Handcrafted from Welsh ash wood and finished with a bell, broomstick, cauldron and black cat. 🐈‍⬛️

Hot off the back of volunteering with The Big Retreat Cambridgeshire last weekend you can find me in the makers tent this Saturday at BacktoNatureFest26 closer to home in Chepstow. I'll have a range of gifts including chopping boards and fairy doors.

I'm going to be so chilled going into Autumn 🧘‍♀️ 😄

'Back to Nature Fest 26 will bring together nature, creativity, wellbeing and community for a full day in Chepstow.

Browse stalls filled with handmade gifts, jewellery, ceramics, herbal products, candles, artwork, photography, natural wellness products and plenty more from independent businesses and local makers.

You can also get involved in creative activities including willow weaving, pottery, macramé, painting, block printing, flower-crown making, Gelli Plate Printing, stick weaving, crystal pendant making and silver and copper ring making.

Throughout the day, there will be talks, demonstrations, qigong, Hatha and Yin Yoga, dowsing, forest bathing information and a performance from Tenovus Choir Abergavenny. Many activities are free or drop-in, but some require advance booking or an additional charge.

If you need a quieter moment, our wellbeing tents will offer places to sit, relax, talk and connect. You’ll be able to meet counsellors, wellbeing practitioners and community organisations, as well as access information and support about menopause, trauma awareness, self-care and prescribed medicinal cannabis.

There will also be plenty to eat and drink, including home-baked cakes, gluten-free and vegan options, pizza, jacket potatoes, nachos, ice cream, pastries, speciality coffee, slushies and alcohol-free cocktails.

Back to Nature Fest is an alcohol-free event. Alcohol and illegal substances are not permitted.'

It always fascinates me how products come along and become popular. These card holders are a classic example. My dad made me some for craft fairs many years ago but I wasn't really using them and not wanting to throw them away I sanded and oiled them and listed them for sale. Fast forward 13 odd years and I've made and sold thousands. They are in cafés in London and France. They've been used at numerous events. Weddings. People use them for photos, menus, table settings, prices, to hold earrings (on a card), tarot cards, business cards. I don't think I make any other product that is used in so many ways!
And I only initially listed them by chance!

Good morning and happy Saturday! 🦉🌿

Over the bank holiday weekend, I’ll be continuing to share some of my available artwork, so if there’s a piece that catches your eye, please feel free to message me with any questions or enquiries. I’m always happy to help! ❤️

This beautiful Tawny Owl was the perfect subject for this naturally shaped piece of oak. I loved the way the shape of the wood worked with the design, making him look as though he’s peeking out from his woodland home. 🌳🦉

Hand-painted on oak and finished to protect the artwork while allowing the beautiful natural character of the wood to shine through.
