After a very busy day yesterday of driving through mountains, eating cake for breakfast and visiting the beautiful Conwy to hang out with the wonderfully lush Tigger Pritchard for a whole 3 hours, we fell into bed at the most stunning Lake Vyrnwy Hotel And Spa (which I got for a bargain price last minute of £79!

Our adventures got really hairy this morning when we realised there are only about 4 beds throughout the whole of Snowdon tonight, unless you’re willing to pay about £300 a night! Which I am not!

After a couple of hours of furiously scrawling through various hotel and air BnB sites , we found the perfect place to stay for the night before Ian’s birthday ….

A single bed in a hostel near Caernarfon😂😂😂😂

It’s a very nice hostel and we have a private bedroom but have to share the loo and shower with the other residents!

Don’t tell me I don’t know how to treat you Ellwood P Dowd x x x

Tonight we are at the Portmeirion festival watching Jools Holland and his blues band, then off to bed!

Highlight of the holiday is that tomorrow we get to sleep in the Dome in Portmeirion ; one of the main buildings in The Prisoner!

Ian is ecstatic.

So, today’s Welsh adventures….

After leaving the wonderful Hay on Wye (yeah I know it’s not Welsh but we had to stop on the way through to look at books and laugh at a shop called number two.

We really are childish this week

Ian and I bought old stuff we don’t need and may have found the best independent comic book store. Ian of course did not buy me a 2000AD comic…….

Made friends with a Welsh pub owner and his lovely Rottie dog, Elsa, in Dolwyddelan (Y Gwydyr) who gave us a random hug as we left (the owner, not the dog ; now that’s service for you!)

Managed to double book accommodation last night (it wouldn’t be a Ralph holiday unless I forgot to book a room one night) , leaving us with nowt place to stay tonight. So, my last minute skills of finding a lush stately home room Caer Rhun Hall for a bargain price came in handy.

Even got Ian to go out for a pub meal….. his idea! mostly because said hotel’s posh menu was mostly dead “sh*t feeders” like prawns and mussels, so we gave that a wide berth. Lovely hotel tho!

Now resting in our lovely posh bed in the silent mountains (apart from next door using a hairdryer for what seems like eternity and having their TV up so loud I think they may be actually be deaf)

And tomorrow off to Conwy to catch up with the rather lush Tigger Pritchard!

Been an awesome 2 days so far!

Off on our little art road trip through Wales and the surrounding area

Last night was a lush little stay farm in Crickhowell in a converted railway cottage. Left the owner a little painting behind to say thanks for such a fun and quirky stay.

Fell in love with one of their horses who gave me the best cuddles.

Currently heading to Hay on Wye via Three C***s

Of course we had to stop and get a photo because we are childish like that ..

******Important announcement ************

We can’t keep this a secret anymore…..

Finally we have received the relevent confirmations that our now, not so secret, event can now go ahead….

TRAXX is the first ever live street art and graffiti weekend in Cornwall that will be held across Newquay on the weekend of 28-31 May 2027

If you’ve ever visited or seen pics of established festivals such as UPFEST Bristol, or WESTERN WALLZ, Weston Super Mare, you’ll know what to expect.

Live graffiti, mural and street artists painting throughout the weekend to create permanent art installations around prominent town buildings, street art tours, creative family workshops, music, food and much, much more.

Next year we will have our own creative art festival, where around 30 artists will be painting live along the tram tracks, art workshops and free children’s and adults art sessions across the Killacourt, along with walking tours showcasing the best of Newquay’s growing art scene.

We aim to put Newquay truly on the map as a creative centre for Cornwall through this incredible project. Promoting local businesses, boosting the town’s economy and bringing forward the artistic talent we have across the county in one space, for one amazing weekend.

But we urgently need to raise funds to do this. It’s going to cost around £130,000 in total. That may sound a lot, but there will be artists to pay, materials to buy, scaffold and cherry pickers to hire , stewards, security and first aid cover to provide as well as project management costs. Even if you can donate just £1, that quickly mounts up.

We have applied for numerous grants but the more money we raise through crowdfunding the more chance we have of match funding to double every penny we raise.

I know we can do this.

And for some donations, we have some incredible pledges to offer you in return….

Maybe you’re needing a work team building day, or a reward day for your staff?
Maybe you want a special piece of unique art , painted by one of our artists?
Maybe you want to help see more young people access creative art sessions for free?
Maybe your a local business who wants to sponsor a local grassroots organisation?

Every penny counts.

And in return we can offer free splat art days, commissioned art pieces and much more depending on your pledge.

Let’s show the UK the amazing artistic talent we have here and provide a family orietntated art festival for 2027.

Crowdfunder link below. Come on, we can do this!

Another busy week …
who said you can’t be an artist as a “proper job?”

Feeling blessed right now to have such an amazing team around me, who are so supportive. And thank you so much to my clients who have allowed me to work around my good and bad days and having to jiggle their appointments.

For those that don’t know me that well, in April I had to be taken in for an urgent total radical hysterectomy. I won’t go into the ins and outs but mostly because oncology couldn’t take a biopsy due to the damage from 3 previous surgeries. Luckily , I am cancer free and I can now get on with my life again.

As a disabled person, years of struggling daily with chronic pain and lack of sleep, alongside fighting constant battles for the right education and support for my two autistic young men, meant that my mental health also took a bit of a nosedive.

Years of poor pain management and the loss of my mobility really impacted me as a person that used to be super fit and healthy and I frequently mourn that loss.

I wasn’t due back to work until September but with lots of rest, a supportive family and friends, and a great therapist who have been there with me throughout all of these difficult times , i have returned earlier than expected!

This week has been difficult pain and tiredness wise. Four hours of work, with help, has still resulted in me needing to go straight to bed on my return today.

And yes it’s perfectly normal to be in bed by 6 isn’t it?

Thank you all for bearing with me if you’ve had to wait or have a rescheduled date for your artwork. And thanks to those around me who have patiently walked alongside me and held me in a difficult period of my life.

Much love to all.
