Better wood, cleaner chiminea 🔥

If you’re lighting the chiminea over the next few evenings, the wood you use makes a big difference. Kiln dried logs light easier, burn cleaner, and help cut down on the smoke and soot you’d get from damp or poorly seasoned wood.

So instead of sitting there getting smoked out like a kipper, you get a better fire, steadier heat, and less blackened mess building up inside.

Different fire, different log 🔥

Not all firewood burns the same, and that’s actually half the fun of it.

If you’re getting the firepit going for a few hours out the back, lighting up after the BBQ, or keeping a bit of heat about once the sun disappears, it helps to know what you’re throwing on.

Ash is a great all-rounder. Steady, reliable, and a good shout when you want a proper burn that keeps things ticking over.

Birch catches quickly and gives you that bright, lively flame early on. Handy when you want to get the fire moving without standing there poking at it like you’re trying to solve a murder.

Oak is the one for a longer, slower burn. Good staying power and ideal when you want the fire settled in for the evening.

A wee firewood tip for your Monday 🔥

There’s no point paying for quality kiln dried logs if they end up sitting soaked in the rain beside the shed.

Once your wood arrives home, try to keep it raised off the ground, covered overhead and somewhere with a bit of airflow moving through it. Dry wood stays easier to light, burns cleaner and gives off far better heat when it’s stored properly.

And before anyone asks, no, wrapping it tightly in a tarp like it’s heading across the Atlantic is not the answer either 😂

A bit of decent storage goes a long way when the cold weather rolls in and you want the fire going without any messing about.
