Last year I collaborated with Loll over at Olivetree Ceramics. She builds the most incredible vessels using leaves as a pattern for the outside. She created these with a birch bark outer finish & the most stunning colour blue inside.
-
Loll also makes Green Men, which are little plaques to hang on the wall, I have Mr Oak & Mr Sunflower & I gifted my Mum Mr Fig. They are simply stunning. The vessels we collaborated on were for a tree fair she was going to last summer.
-
I created the scent & called it “Spirit of the Forest” it was a lovely scent of pine, oud, green moss & bergamot. Very uplifting. I then filled her vessels & she took them to market.
-
It was a lot of fun & I thoroughly enjoyed using her vessels. They were so unique. I have some at the moment that I’ve got from her, watch this space for outdoor candles in the summer!!
-
I follow lots of fellow candle makers & really enjoy their content. I also really like to buy other people’s candles as a bit of a change to my own scents.
-
There’s room for everyone & collaborating is much better than competing. We all struggle at times with sales, so this is a really good way to encourage each other.
-
Who can you think to collaborate with? The funkier the better!

WEEK 1: ABOUT ME. I’m an ex ITU Nurse, retired due to chronic health issues. I make everything myself, in my garage. Everything I make is sustainably sourced & a great deal of thought goes into every make. I’ve lived in the USA a lot due my father being in the US Air Force when I was little. Most of my family live there.
I care deeply about my family & friends. If anyone hurts them, watch out!! I love interiors, and classical literature, & just try to tear me away from a good costume drama!

*Vulnerable Post*

Since my mid 20’s I have been in the world of cancer as a patient. Ironically, I was also a high dependency/ITU Nurse too in that world. My health details are private obviously, but enough to say, I’m grateful to be here & have two beautiful daughters.

This past year has been exceptionally hard. One of my dearest friends received a cancer diagnosis & it knocked me for six. I’ve dealt with this disease for so long, that it really upsets me when other people have to deal with it. But my friend? No, don’t mess with my friends or family.

Fast forward to this year & I find out a dear family member has it too. He’s young, & very talented, his whole life ahead of him. This realllly got to me. His sister is in bits, but doing amazingly well supporting him. ♥️

Cancer doesn’t just affect the person diagnosed, it affects anyone they know too. Their family, partner, work colleagues, friends, & many, many more too numerous to mention.

So,today, on World Cancer Day, remember all the many people in the lives of the cancer patient too, they are just as shocked, scared, uncertain & worried as the patient themselves.

A day in my life as a candle maker. Pouring orders, checking stock, entertaining Mabel the dog & putting up social media posts with a black gap in the video for no apparent reason!! This is my reality, getting on with orders according to the mood Mabel is in. If she’s ripping everything in the garage apart, it takes a lot more patience & thought to get her settled so I can work. Some days I just have to give in & go back inside, other days, she will snooze for hours in her bed.
I have to admit also, I get so focussed on what I have to do, that I very often forget to film what I’m doing. I like to listen to pod casts or have a film or series on in the background, playing on my phone. So, I very often don’t film because my phone is already busy! After my commute, (walk to the garage), I set up Mabel’s bed, get some treats ready for her inevitable moments of boredom, switch on the melter, fill it if necessary. Make a list, after checking both shops, then I crack on. If I have orders to make, I wick those jars, ready my oils & wait for the wax to melt. If I’m just adding to stock, I check which scents I need to re-stock, get out the jars, wicks, oils & tidy my space whilst I wait for the wax. Once the wax is melted, the pour goes really fast & I leave everything to set for 24hrs before trimming the wicks, polishing & labelling the jars & packing them up for the postal collection.

Today’s prompt is “Tools” for the British Craft House challenge.
This is just a few things I use when making candles. I also use a huge amount of cloths & some paper towels to buff wax drips off of vessels. I use pens, a ruler, laptop, my phone, label printer, apron, CLP labels, product labels, ladle, heat gun, dust covers, ribbon, tissue, twine, & the list goes on!! If I’m making wax melts, add to that moulds, botanicals, boxes, glassine bags, starch cellophane & care cards.
There are so many tools that I use for every single pour, I probably could put them@all into one graphic!
Stay tuned for some of the tools in action, in further prompts for this challenge.
Thanks for following along!

For today’s with the britishcrafthouse the prompt is “What’s on my desk?”
I work in our garage, it is far from aesthetically pleasing & there are jars, oils, vessels, packaging EVERYWHERE. It’s such a muddle. (Sorry family), but, I manage to produce some very lovely things so I’ve been told.
I always have a cold drink in my trusty Yeti cup. Whatever the weather, it’s cold, with ice. I usually have a few candles that need packing up. My melter is a Buffalo soup kettle, works brilliantly. I always have wick trimmers for snipping the wicks off freshly poured candles.
At the moment, the flowers my daughter bought me for my birthday are on my desk. They make me smile & think of her. I usually have a new product or label that I’m photographing, and finally my To Do list. This is always a leaflanestudio pad. It’s a little bit of joy & luxury amongst all the necessary tools.
Every now & again I have this space cleared & it turns into a marathon packing station! Ribbon, tissue, boxes & thank you/safety cards are all strewn about whilst I pack orders. There can’t be any candles setting, or the tissue will get mucky & the candles won’t set nicely. So there you have it! My desk & what everything is on it. Do you have a tidy & beautiful desk? I’d love to see it!

Day 2 of the British Craft House, Instagram challenge. Meet the Founder/Maker.
Hello, my name is Lisa, I’m a small business owner & candle chandler.
I once was an ITU nurse then practice nurse. I left nursing after 25+ yrs when my health deteriorated. I have two grown up daughters, who are mine & my husband’s pride & joy. We have two cats, a mad Bagle hound, (beagle/bassett mix) & a small family of deer that visit frequently.
I am a dual national, love visiting my family in America & seeing new places. I really enjoy Italian food, our youngest daughter makes a delicious chicken Parmesan.
I really enjoy rock music but also pretty much anything that doesn’t annoy me!
I love reading autobiographical books, I’m so nosey! Avid people watcher & water drinker.
Tell me something about you in the comments!

Happy New Year to you all!

One of my shops is with The British Craft House, & Dottie (Susan), our fearless leader has set an Instagram challenge for January. is all about mapping our intentions, gaining success in our businesses & just generally being a bit more consistent on Instagram/social media.

I’m here for it! Having prompts always helps me to be more structured with my posts & actually say useful things!

Today is “what am I leaving behind in 2025?” simply put, doubt, is what I’m leaving behind, that then snowballs into all the other things I’ve mentioned above.

What are you leaving behind in 2025?

Thanks for being a top engager and making it on to my weekly engagement list! 🎉Mary Rolfe, Linda May, Charlotte White
