New builds are brilliant blank canvases - but sometimes they can miss that soul and character older homes have developed over the years.

Here are 5 ways to add instant character to a new build property:

1. Add Architectural Details
Think wall panelling, ceiling coving, picture rails or a fireplace with presence. Period-inspired detailing gives a new build the depth and charm you’d find in established homes - even if it was only built last year!

2. Use Colour With Confidence
Regular developers love safe neutrals - we love to layer in rich greens, warm taupes, deep blues or earthy terracottas to create mood and personality. I especially love a bold loo!

3. Mix Old With New
Vintage pieces instantly soften the “box fresh” feel. An antique console, reclaimed wood dining table, or a characterful mirror can transform a room. The contrast is what makes it interesting.

4. Upgrade the Lighting
We always swap standard pendants for statement lighting. Wall lights, picture lights and, our favourite, a statement hallway pendant to set the tone as soon as you enter.

5. Add Texture Everywhere
Layer natural materials: wood, linen, wool, stone, aged brass. Texture creates depth and warmth, which is often what new builds lack most. Carefully selected tiles are a great way to achieve this.

A new build doesn’t have to feel clinical or cookie-cutter - with the right details, it can feel layered, timeless and completely personal to you.

Leaning into the beautiful 70s bones of this chalet-style home was our starting point and where the magic began.

Instead of fighting the era, we celebrated it - layering earthy tones, rich walnut finishes, tactile limewash plaster walls, sumptuous velvets and playful, sculptural shapes throughout. The result? A beautifully curated space that feels like home. Warm, characterful, and completely unique.

Proof that when you honour a home’s original spirit and elevate it with timeless materials, you create something that doesn’t just look good… it feels incredible to live in.

Another beautiful kitchen completed.

Perfectly balancing timeless shaker cabinetry with warm oak detailing and soft brass accents. We layered natural textures, statement lighting and bespoke storage to create a kitchen that feels calm, welcoming and effortlessly functional.

From the handcrafted pantry cabinetry to the oversized island made for gathering, every detail was carefully considered to suit modern family living - without compromising on style.

A truly collaborative project from design to installation, and one we’re incredibly proud of.

Looking back at this beautiful project, completed with at the end of last year as the sun starts to make an appearance. The natural light brings out every detail, making the space feel even more inviting!

Our clients wanted to achieve a luxurious hotel-style vibe in their master suite—complete with a dressing room, bedroom, and ensuite. Warm beiges, deep green accents, and brass details create a timeless, elegant feel. Natural materials like wood cabinetry, linen window dressings and plush carpets add that perfect layer of comfort and understated luxury.
