MIXING FABRICS 🤎

On a bed or sofa, don't be afraid to mix fabrics. The use of different colours, patterns and textures really adds depth and interest to the room.

Traditional ginghams look gorgeous in all rooms, including kids rooms, stripes never go out of fashion and florals add elegance and interest 🤍

WHY I CHOSE GREEN FOR A RENTAL BEDROOM?! ✅️

1. Colour! People think brilliant white brightens a space - but actully it can feel really cold. Adding colour brings warmth, cosiness and personality to a rental without going too bold. We kept it simple by painting the whole room with no extra detail (such as panelling) that may get damaged during a long term rental. 🟢

2. Green is the new neutral! It goes with everything - other shades of green, creams, browns, whites, blacks, gold, silver, wood tones and millions of textures and prints so the renter can absolutely put thier stamp on the place. 🌿

3. Green is great for bedrooms as it's a very calming colour due to its association with nature! It works particularly well for this bedroom as it overlooks a huge green field, full of mature trees. 🌳

4. Swapping a plain shade for a new, black, metal dome gives a little modern, polished finish. ◼️

STUDIO White Woodland Photography 🤍

A few months ago, I set up the gorgeous studio for the lovely Sarah. Recently, she's changed the way she shoots, so I was lucky enough for her to ask for my help again to rearrange and re-style. I took down all the fabric and drapes and rearranged them to suit her new shooting vibe and I'm so pleased she loves the outcome. This studio now allows Sarah to work with natural daylight throughout the day, moving curtains and drapes to suit the light and location of shoot!

BEACH HUT ⛱️

Designing a space like a beach hut can be challenging...not only making it homely, but packing in a lot...in a small space.

Here's some things we did to maximise the space and use.

- Storage Bench - The cushions are covering the opening to lots of very useful space for buckets, spades, games and extra Blankets.

- Folding Table - A decent table for dining or playing games is important in this hut so we wanted to have one big enough. There are also 2 shelves underneath for drinks etc. Folded down, it gives so much space for more seating if the weather doesn't hold up or for guests to get changed.

- Roller Blind - This is very cute, compact and neat looking. If a guest needed to change out of wet or sandy clothes, the roller blind provides privacy, without taking up any space.

- Rack - Above the roller blind is a simple but very effective rack. This stores the windbreak and beach brolly! Tucked away, again maximising storage space.

- Shelving - Above the seating, you can see a large shelf. This is for bags, towels and general belongings that you want out of the way while you enjoy the hut. We also have shelves for decor and extra storage built into the structure of the hut.

Hallway 💙

Hallways are important - they're the first thing you see when you walk in the door. They need to be welcoming and show a little glimpse of your style! 🤭

This client wanted effortless and very, very subtlety beachy. Neutral colours, wood tones and textures with subtle hints of Blue create the vision and I'm absolutely obsessed 💙

After creating an inspiration board, I create a personalised shopping board with extra details and send over a full shopping list of links - making the vision come to life with just a few clicks 🤩

Inspiration is everywhere ⛰️

Recently, we took a family trip to Wales and I found myself completely inspired by the colours, textures and lighting of the gorgeous beaches.

We might associate natural colours with very simple brown and beige but look at the pure whites, bright yellows and greens, blacks, greys and even pinky/purples that nature provides.

As an interior Stylist, I tend to follow very natural, calm, muted colour palettes. In recent projects, I've added blues or greens...but this trip has given me confidence to add in more colour. I found myself taking picture after picture to make sure I didn't forget the feeling and of course the look of every beautiful spot.

When transforming a space, find the items that you either LOVE or mean something to you and give them pride of place. They'll "spark joy" every time you walk past or look around 🥰 In this case it was these beautiful paintings created by a family friend of a very special place.

Step 2 - Shopping 🖤

After creating an inspiration board (previous post), I begin searching for the best products to achieve beauty, function and style in your home.

With the moodboard service option, I provide links to all of the products seen so you can easily shop the look. If its a full room install day/s you need...its at this point we can properly talk about options, things that work and things that don't. It's always great to have your budget in mind as I'll always work to that, the best I can!

During the process, I hope to bring the OTTO style, balance and harmony - but take on board the likes/dislikes of my client - teamwork makes the dream work after all 🤭

Inspiration board 🖤

When starting all interior projects - I design an Inspiration Moodboard. This makes sure me and you are on the same page and shows the design direction we are heading in.

With this one...we wanted modern but calm and cosy. By mixing fabrics, sleek with curved lines, flat colours with natural colours and some greenery or flowers, we can create the perfect balance.

2023 ACHIEVEMENTS & 2024 GOALS 🖤

Honestly...in 2023, I had some therapy for anxiety. My amazing therapist pushed me out of my comfort zone and guided me though the start of this business and this very special project! ( trusted me with her studio and it was the most amazing experience for me in more ways than one)

Creativity calms my anxiety and once my focus is shifted to Interiors...its like my anxiety melts away and I feel motivated and excited to create and achieve my goals.

Why I'm telling you this is to say that OTTO means more to me than just pretty Interiors. I wanted to take some time to thank everyone for thier support, shares, kind words, orders and custom in 2023. 2024 will bring so many more projects, big and small 🖤

Also, the reason for all of this...my two children 🤍 I've found strength and made goals to give them the best journey of life and to always remind them to GO FOR YOUR DREAMS 🤍

TRANSFORMATION 🌿🍃🍀

AFTER ➡️ BEFORE 🖤

I can't actually wait to share the whole transformation as it's so much more than this little corner...but for now I thought I'd share this. With the right furniture, some lighting and gorgeous paintings by the amazing this corner has been transformed!

My brief here was:
1. Bold but relaxing - the green wallpaper is quite a statement in this room, paired with a creamy white it is easy on the eye. Black frames against the wallpaper contrast with the other natural tones of the room.

2. "Bring the outdoors, in" - the leafy pattern, choice of colour palette and textures of the room lead onto the gorgeous garden, through the double doors. Lots of wood tones and plants run throughout to add to the natural, garden feel.

3. Lots of furniture and original decor has been collected or inherited over the years, so it was important for me to mix the old & New - something I love to do anyway. As the room is revealed, you'll see the furniture and how I've moved and styled it to suit the shape and size of the room. (Room transformations don't need to have all New, highly priced items to look gorgeous).

4. The entire room has many functions for a big family, with lots of grandchildren. Living, playroom, dining room, office and music room...let's see how it unfolds 🤭

That's part one, can't wait to share the rest as it's an ongoing project at the moment - I'm still hunting down some light fittings, desk and chair!

GREEN LOVE 🫒

This is a recent project I have worked on for a lovely client. I start with an inspiration board, to show the aesthetic and mood I'm trying to create. It gives the vision! From there, I add further moodboards of details and shopping lists that can make the vision a reality.

Here at OTTO, I believe that adding a simple pattern through textiles brings so much interest and depth into the room. Of course a stripe is also timeless - it'll always look gorgeous and never go out of style.

DECLUTTERING 🤍

Start with that sock draw, your handbag or stack of DVD's. I can guarantee you'll feel better for it and it'll lead onto the next draw or cupboard 💫

Interior for family life must consider beauty as well as functionality. Choose furniture with storage - ottoman beds, cabinets with plenty of cupboards or drawers, closed/covered storage units, storage boxes for toys etc - it makes the world of difference when everything has a place.

When you declutter, not only does it look cleaner and tidier, you'll spend less time picking things up...simply you have less stuff.

Gina sent me questions to think about prior to the consultation and then we had a relaxed discussion about the problems I needed her to help us overcome. I’ve loved being able to chat with Gina since she came over about the way the room needed to feel.
After the consultation I was really happy and asked to go ahead and booked the service for planning the room. I received a document that details the items she recommends with where they are from, the size, cost and discount codes that are available! The document also included the final mood boards and a ‘plan’ drawing of the layout of the room.

I could tell she had spent time finding retailers that made quality items that were priced within my budget.
