I am so bad at sharing what I’m up to…
Seriously I get messages all the time “what do you have on sale?” “Are you still doing pottery lessons?” “Do your chickens still exist?”
Trust me, my camera roll is BURSTING of all that good stuff, and my 2026 focus is being more visible because how do you know that you love me if you can’t see how amazing I am 🙄
But today is not about me. (Maybe a little)
Today is about BILLY’S TEAPOT 🫖
Billy has been with me for a few months now for weekly lessons and last week he said, “I’d really love to make a teapot this week”
Now I want to say that I cheered him on, and was like HECK YEAH LETS DO IT! Nay nay. The methodical sliver of my brain suggested that maybe we should practice some lidded forms and throwing off the hump for spouts first… but Billy said “hold my beer” and went for it… 3 hours over two weeks, he threw, trimmed, measured, and pulled handles for this absolute masterpiece and the JOY in his eyes says it all.
I remember the art of the novice, and saying 🦆 it let’s give it a go, and how important that is in pottery. I never planned to be a potter that would lose that side of making, and Billy made me straighten my crown and remember the whole reason I started doing this.
No gatekeeping, no barriers, just clay, skills, time and JOY.
Over the last few weeks I’ve had a brand new mummy who threw whilst I held her gorgeous baby reminding me to make time for myself and being those kids into your world, Billy the teapot wizard who reminded me that the art is in going for it, and a first time 70 year old potter with arthritis who almost kicked me for making her sit on a stool before promptly grabbing the comfy dining room chair and making it work.
There are no rules friends, if your current plan isn’t going to plan, deviate. Trust me.
