I tend to be more of a 'green person' than a 'blue person' and I generally prefer warm shades to cooler ones. But there is something wonderfully calming and at the same time refreshing, about this palette; perfect for a bedroom or relaxing sitting room.

The fabric is 'Suhani, Azure' from 'The Pure Edit'.

If you have been following ,me for a few years, you may recognise this beautiful photo of a jelly fish taken by my best friend's son - Jose Gray (www.josegray.com).

I decided to revisit it, as it really is such a great photo. The main fabric I have chosen for the scheme this time is 'Estrado' in 'Rust, Ruby, Nordic Blue', from 'Harlequin'. The other fabric is 'Dulcie' from 'Ian Sanderson' in 'Ravenna'.

This is a good illustration of how to mix patterns in a scheme. The Ian Sabnderson fabric is quite a lot brighter, but still has the teal and rust hues of the Harlequin fabric and the organic shapes, reminiscent of coral, constrast with the more geometric pattern of the main fabric.

Neutral shades can be used to great effect when creating a colour scheme for your home. The key is to combine a variety of shades, some warmer, some cooler, some lighter and some darker, with a variety of textural materials such as fabrics, ceramics, rattan, terracotta, glass, metals and stone, to name just a few.

The photo was taken on a trip to an ancient monastry on the Greek island of Zakynthos.

I love this colour combination. Subtle shades of lavender and raspberry teamed with sage and a darker, fuller green, create a calm relaxing scheme for virtually any room of your home.

I took the photo a few years ago at one of my favourite places - 'Overbecks' a beautiful garden, perched on the cliffs above Salcombe in Devon.

The fabric is Tulip Garden from Lucie Annabel

The summery shades of today's colour inspiration post are inspired by this gorgeous bouquet.

I took this photo, on a beautiful, sunny day at Elvaston Castle.

I do love the shades of colour that can be seen in an old, weathered brick wall, when it is warmed by the sun. The roses that were growing against this wall have similar hues to the bricks, but they are brighter and more intense, creating an interesting colour palette.

These colours would work well as a scheme for a garden room, bedroom or a sunny sitting room.

I love the vibrant colours in this photo taken by Jose Gray - https://www.josegray.com (I used another photo in this same series a few months ago, if it looks familar). The burnt orange of the wooden steps contrasts beautifully with the luscious greens of the tree, and the blue kayak adds a pop of colour to draw the eye...

This would be a great colour palette for a garden room or bright living room and don't forget to include lots of plants, to introduce a variety natural greens into the scheme.

The fabric is Iliv's Marari, Ruby.

You might think a colour palette of neutrals would be boring and uninspiring, but neutrals can look so sophisticated. The key to a neutral colour scheme is to introduce lots of lovely textures. The laquered side tables, the ceramic of the lamp base and the chunky woven and embroidered fabrics, all help to add depth and interest to this scheme.

Imagine this in a gorgeous living room or luxurious bedroom. It would also work beautifully in an office, study, or hallway.

The fabrics are all from Warwick Fabrics, Hamptons Collections

😮Now for something a little different...!

As patchwork seems to be on trend at the moment, I decided to try making a patchwork cushion for my bedroom. The fabric pieces were all small off cuts or samples swatches. Some were new, some were from my vintage fabric stash and some have a memories linked to them - the olive gingham fabric was an off cut from a tiny shirt I made for my friend's little boy - that little boy is now 30!

Once they were all stitched together I decided that they needed something a little bit extra. That's when I remembered one of my favourite childhood stories - 'Milly Molly Mandy makes a Cosy'. In this story, Milly Molly Mandy collects lots of scraps of fabric from different people, then stitches them all together with feather stitch to make a tea cosy 'for mother'.

Well that's the story behind my patchwork cushion. Let me know if you like it in the comments.

I've chosen a summery palette of blues and a sandy neutral for today's colour inspiration post. The photo was taken a few years ago at Torcross in Devon - I just manged to catch the rainbow, before it faded away.

The fabrics are both from The Pure Edit - Suhani, Azure and Pakko, Blue
