So Hey, I'm Ash the director of Silverfox, the team responsible for everything retail in Hopkinson.
Why can't we have AI in Hopkinson?
The simplest point, the environmental repercussions of using AI are catastrophic. The amount of water used to cool the data processing centres, will destroy what's left of our coastal ecosystems. Most in our circles are environmentalists and sell second hand goods and craft to circumvent the effects of fast fashion/consumption on the world.
Ai functions on pattern recognition, lacks personal vision and no humanity (Yes I know, also sounds like me). Joking aside, all the work looks the same as it works off pattern recognition. If you want to stand out in this market you need to be different. Ai can never be an artist because it has no personal vision, love, grief, human connection or creative expression. All the ingredients for real art.
ARTISTS CAN SPOT IT
When you use generative ai to make posters, logos and art, you're taking someone's job and making them redundant. Generative AI will take your work if you feed it in and regurgitate to others, via its pattern recognition. In simpler terms, it will plagiarise your work. At some point in your life I'm sure you have experienced what it feels like, how redundancy can be devastating on families and personal life.
From a business point of view, if we spot you using this in your socials, writing and art. We would have no choice but to remove you from the community, to protect other works. If you're ever challenged don't take it personal, it's getting harder to see what is real or AI.
Final thoughts, ai has a place in the world. Certain jobs that require no human error or feelings. For example we deal with graded Pokémon cards everyday. This would benefit from an ai system that doesn't depend on whether you had your morning coffee or not.
And hey, I'm not perfect. When generative ai first became available I used it. But from self educating and empathy working with others in the creative field, I have grown. It's not too late for you to make a change.
