Managed to crack on tonight and finish off the antler stick. So it’s now for sale. Red antler thumb stick topped hazel stick with oak spacer and ash nurl. £40

A little bit of stickage tonight. Finally mounted these two tops. One is a piece of red deer antler on an oak spacer with an ash nurl on the cut end of antler. The other one is a little bit different. Occasionally I get axes to re handle. This was the heel end of a snapped axe handle. With my ever working brain of let’s not throw it away I came up with a different solution 🤣. With a yew spacer it should look different but with a bit of fettling to get it to fit and feel comfortable for use as a walking staff.
These will hopefully be for sale in the next few weeks…. Ready for Christmas presents. The antler topped will be £40 (antler is a little bit deer 😂🤦, although it is quite expensive since pet shops started selling it for chews) and the axe handled one will be around £30 due to the amount of time and effort spent in making.

When I first started this whole thing it was simple I carved spoons and some love spoons then gave them away. it was then suggested I could sell them so I did. This meant the hobby then become more towards production but never at the level where it wasn’t a hobby.
Now it’s still a self funding hobby but the vast array of products is a little wider. What this means is that I spent from 8pm til just after 10pm on a Friday night sanding and finishing off these thumb holders as I discovered last week I was down to my last 2. It’s not a fun task….in fact it’s quite a pain in the bum but these things are really popular and it starts all sorts of conversations when at shows. so to me they are worth the effort to make them.

A worthwhile bank holiday as Mrs Gp decided that the workshop was that bad she needed to sort it. She’s done an excellent job as I can now get in and also use the work bench again! Whilst she was inside I was outside sorting out the wood store and lean to (also rather bad). I then found time and space to make up this nice little coat board out of a piece of ash I found
