It's easy to rush through a garden centre and miss the beautiful details that surround you

This week I've been taking a few minutes to slow down and really look at what's flowering around us. The colours, the shapes, the size of some of these blooms. They still surprise me, even after all these years.

We're incredibly proud of the quality of the plants we grow here at Welland Vale and right now they're looking their absolute best.

If your garden is crying out for a bit more colour, come and have a wander this weekend. You might leave with a few more plants than you planned....but I can't take responsibility for that.

A little piece of Welland Vale history.

While sorting through some old photographs, Annie came across these shots of her dad working in the nursery years ago.

Long before Instagram, reels and smartphones, there were rows of homegrown plants, plenty of hard work and an orange tractor that seemed to be in constant use.

A lot has changed since these photos were taken but we're still a family-run nursery... growing here in Rutland and still helping people find the right plants for their gardens.

It's nice to look back and remember where it all started.

Finding a Father's Day gift is easy when you know where to look.

This week, Charlie's daughters took over and gave us their own tour of Welland Vale, picking out a few things they think dads would love. From herbs for the garden and new gardening gloves to wellies, beer, chocolate and gift vouchers, they've covered all bases.

After Charlie's shade-loving plant recommendations, quite a few of you asked for the sunny spots too.

So Annie's back with three of her favourites for gardens that get plenty of sunshine.

Salvia Caradonna for rich colour and pollinator appeal, Nepeta Purrsian Blue for months of soft blue flowers, and Senecio Angel Wings for that beautiful silver foliage that stands out all summer long.

The best part? They're all grown by us, right here in Rutland, for Rutland gardens.

What a way to frame an entrance.

Annie is an absolute wizard and the in Lyddington has now been blessed with her touch....

I could go into detail about the planting, the colour combinations and how these hanging baskets will only get better over the next few weeks but I reckon let the photos do the talking.

May felt a month where we blinked and suddenly it's June!

A month of homegrown plants leaving the nursery for their new gardens, hanging baskets heading out on deliveries, busy weekends, fresh displays, greenhouse walks, seed packets, houseplants, wildlife and plenty of four-legged supervision along the way.

Looking through these photos, we're reminded that a garden centre is about so much more than plants. It's the people who work here, the customers who visit, the families who grow up around it, and the small everyday moments that often end up meaning the most.

Thank you to everyone who has visited, supported us, shared advice, stopped for a coffee, bought a plant, or simply had a chat.

Here's to a busy summer ahead 🌿

"You don't need a special occasion to buy a rose... but they do make a pretty good gift too."

We've got some beautiful roses looking their best right now, including the much-loved collection from David Austin Roses, along with varieties from Whartons.

Whether you're looking for fragrance, colour, repeat flowering, climbing roses, patio roses or something to fill a gap in the border, there's a good chance you'll find it here this weekend.

As always if you're not sure which rose is right for your garden, just ask. We'll happily point you in the right direction.

You’d be surprised how many people come in for one plant and leave with birthday cards, garden tools, a new mug, houseplant food and ideas for the weekend 🌿

While it’s far too hot to be digging all day outside, the shop’s looking really good at the moment.

We’ve got fresh houseplants, feeds and composts, gifts, cards, garden furniture, watering kit, indoor pots and all those little bits you suddenly realise you need halfway through a job.

It’s not just plants here at Welland Vale.

Pop in for a wander, cool off for half an hour and see what you spot 👀
