Devon Open Studio - Starts this weekend!

Kevin Hadley is opening his studio as part of Devon Artist Network and Open Studios Devon Artist Network and has created some beautiful new paintings especially for the event! There will be sketches, works on paper and small pieces all at studio prices! It’s a great chance to speak to Kev about his work and see first hand what he is working on plus chat about commissions.

The gallery will also be open and there will be tea, coffee and fizz to enjoy with the art!

If you love colourful, fun still life paintings reflecting modern identity and bold landscapes, this one’s for you!

We are in Torbay, South Devon. Please feel free to DM with any questions! Would be marvellous to see you!

The doors will be open on the 12th, 13th, 19th, 20th September 10- 4. Tie in a bracing walk on the beach and then pop in!

ad Bathroom makeover in zoomable stills…

This bathroom used to be olive green. We installed it ourselves years ago and loved it for a long time but it was feeling so tired.

Swipe to discover three small changes that completely transformed how this bathroom feels. I’ve also shared extra details about how we created this entire look. Keep going to the end to see before AND before, before photos!

Marked as ad because the Little Greene paint was gifted, everything else was bought and paid.

Let me know what you think and please ask if any questions! Em ###

New favourite blue paint, Celestial Blue from Little Greene

I tried to find a vintage mirror for this space but then stumbled across this one from Graham and Green. It has added warmth and softness compared to the previous black framed mirror.

We created this sink unit from an old chest of drawers that I found on eBay years ago. These handles from MG&Co. have given it a new lease of life. I chose clover backplates and red k***s! The floor tiles were from Best Tile

The three changes. Paint, mirror, handles!

Keep swiping for more details of this room. This vintage South Devonshire map was a Penzance junk shop find years ago.

Of course I add art to bathrooms, it stops it feeling sterile (and anyway, I need to make the most of all walls!) This is a drypoint print from Eska Marsh framed in a vintage frame alongside a plate from gallery artist Meredith Adams. The wall lights are from Garden Trading

We create this splashback/shelf using reclaimed floorboards. The bath was an eBay UK find.

I love collecting little bottles to use as vessels!

The towel is from M&S

This beautiful oil painting is by Olivia Tew | Drawer of things | Reflections on making there is a print version available to buy on my website

Still happy with my simple white tiled shower and built in alcove.

This towel shelf is a reclaimed train luggage rack. Towels are from Piglet in Bed • Linen Bedding & More

Hooks on the back of the door for our dressing gowns/ robes! This one is from MAHIKA KALA

We bought this church chair 20 years ago with intentions of collecting a set at some point. We still only have this one. It’s part of the famil

Okay, bear with…

I had a carousel ready for today that vanished off the face of the earth when I hit post at 7am. I will make it again but not right now. Typically it was a carousel with 20 photos, writing on of them and a different caption for each one. You have to laugh or you will cry!

So I have pivoted this morning because sometimes you need to and that is fine right? Doesn’t make you a failure, it’s just a necessary part of the journey!

Same goes for this Kevin Hadley painting ‘Coffee with Hockney. You might recognise it from it’s previous iteration. It’s had a glow up, instead of a dark cerise background and frame it now has this soft pink! So lovely! It’s available now or maybe you can see it in person at our Open Studio event this weekend?!

Anyway, happy Tuesday! Hope your day has started better than mine! Emily x

I love IKEA (I really do) but if everything in your house came in a flat pack, you’re missing a trick. Original art, vintage pieces, random finds, that’s what makes a home.

Are you with me?!

Have a great week,

A little reintroduction!

Some things to say…. I’m 46 years old so I am really not sure about using the word girly but I’ve gone with it anyway even though I am kind of giving myself the ick.

Also you need to know that I do love a cocktail but I am a total lightweight so can only really have one or two and the next day is a write off (is that because of the 46 thing?!)

From a business point of view the gallery owner bit should have had more time than the cocktail lover one but it wasn’t until the end that I realised I had given more weight to the cocktails than the gallery. Ah well. TBH I really like proper cocktails, orange wine, good food, and staying in really nice places but that wasn’t as catchy….

You get the gist. My name is Emily, I founded and run an art gallery and I like fashion (NOT the fast variety) and cocktails.

Have a great weekend! Emily 🖼️ 💃🏻 🍸

Very excited to be releasing brand new paintings by A M Y R H O D E S, a gallery artist who uses the most glorious colour palette to create these warm and uplifting abstracted landscapes. They really draw you in and tae you away to a dreamy place. SO pretty! Love how well the framing works too.

I am also loving how they are keeping the summer alive around the gallery right now!

Five very beautiful brand new paintings will land in your inboxes at 6pm this evening! Enjoy! Emily ###

I mean, are you sure you want to go there?!! Swipe if you do!

By the way this painting is an A M Y R H O D E S that is part of Friday’s art drop…

How do I choose the artists I represent and art I showcase I hear you ask…

Read on to find out!

I want the gallery to be a non pretentious, kind and supportive place. That’s how I want to live my life, it’s what I offer and what I want in return. I work with wonderful artists who totally get it.

I look for artists who aren’t chasing trends, but honing a signature visual language. A distinct, unmistakable hand that is instantly recognisable.

Colour mastery, composition, movement, emotion, layers, tactility and that certain something that can be hard to put your finger on (The art world X Factor!)

Something that gives a body of work substance and emotional depth. I love a backstory and the ‘why’ and ‘how’ behind a collection.

No particular style just pieces that don’t demand a sterile white cube, but thrive alongside vintage finds, ceramics, textiles, and precious trinkets in real homes.

Art that breathes character into a space, transforming flat walls into warm, lived-in and deeply personal interiors.

Comment or DM the word ART and I’ll send over a link to become an insider so you can get first pick of new art! Em x

ad Last week we stayed The Lost Poet, a small but perfectly formed guesthouse at the start of Portobello Road, just a few minutes walk from Notting Hill Gate tube.

We absolutely LOVED spending time in that area of town. It was fun exploring Portobello itself and we had the perfect lunch Canteen • 310 Portobello Road and dinner Ria’s both in easy walking distance.

We also walked through Hyde Park to Serpentine and then onwards to central London, such an easy base.

Our beautiful two storey room was on the top floor with a lounge area and private roof terrace. On the second night, after two full on days Londoning, we sat out on the terrace and enjoyed a delicious takeaway from Empire Empire followed by curling up on the sofa in the lounge area to watch… Notting Hill, actually forgot how good that film is!

100% recommend this gorgeous place which I booked via Curated Spaces Club, the perfect place to begin when looking for the very best spots to stay…

Share with someone who would LOVE a Portobello weekend or save for the next time you hit the capital! Em x
