Moments in the workshop as we assemble a number of Bay and Casement windows for a Listed building in St. Ives, Cambridgeshire. Carefully manufactured out of engineered redwood with detailed historic sills they are being matched mm by mm with the originals. At The English Listed we are very proud to have our slim heritage glazing signed off by HDC Conservation for Listed properties in the area. This means we can create these delicately barred and glazed windows which just look superbly suited to the delicate period properties they sit within.

I was delighted to visit Gymteq this week and see that my design work has come alive! Tom already had a very successful business- Physioteq on the Cambridge University site but branched out just over a year ago to his new Gymteq venture. He acquired this enormous space in Haslingfield, Cambridge and set me to task with the design work. The brief was to help design a space that was inclusive and fitted within Tom's brand and ethos. Tom wanted the space to be family friendly and inviting for all generations and groups rather than solely a masculine environment. With such a big space I recommended ways of breaking it up, colours for the massive walls, hanging features & jolly neon lights. Ropes wrap the hard edges of the posts and wooden panelling adds softness. The chill out area has an industrial yet inviting feel with areas to sit on devices, play games or have a coffee. It is so lovely to see my mood boards converted to reality. I think this is such a lovely space for anyone to train and the men and women I spoke to that were enjoying the gym were full of praise for Tom and the environment that has been created to make them feel so comfortable. The clever made-to-measure Console. At The English Listed, our joinery and metal shop are skilled at creating bespoke furniture to fit your space, where an off-the-shelf item just isn’t perfect enough. A beautiful console does wonders for a plain wall.. hiding an unsightly radiator or making sense of a space that appears nothing more than a ‘through route’ to another room. Here are 2 very different consoles that we have made for our customers. This first metal design has been treated with a bronze finish, which was less ‘harsh’ than a black. It has been made exactly the right size to fit over the unsightly radiator and features 2 glass shelves for display and extra interest. The second console is made of Ash and is stained black. This console was particularly long at nearly 2 metres to fit this through-room perfectly and was inspired by an antique design. It features 2 drawers with hanging handles and a large enough top to feature the large table lamps sourced to make a feature of the space.

This February, we completed these remarkable heritage windows for a delightful project in Whittlesey.

Made from identical timber sections sourced from Accoya timber, these windows were painted in a dual colour to match the customers’ specifications.

While it’s a pleasure restoring most of the joinery we encounter, some are simply too deteriorated to be salvaged. In such cases, we must replace them. However, knowing that the replacement is of such high quality and meticulously crafted to preserve the original details makes the effort worthwhile.

These are the final touches to a substantial project restoring the main house and attached coach house.

From the thatch and re-roof to the restored and newly installed joinery, it’s certainly breathed new life into this impressive home. We hope that it will keep the lovely clients warm and dry for many more decades.
