The medals of Newtongrange miner. Includes pay book and discharge papers showing “ gunshot wound left leg” sustained at the battle of Loos. A year later he signs up again and is wounded once more in 1917 thereby being awarded a second silver wound badge. He went back to the mines after the war and lived into the 1960s. Tough guy or what ? Respect to Robert McLeary Royal Scots Fusiliers late of Reed Drive in Newtongrange.

Not one but two WWII swift training rifles in boxes. One with a 1945 dated receipt for delivery to Peebles ATC based at March Street Mills. Military and local interest, my favourite things. The Swift was an ill conceived training aid developed after Dunkirk when rifles and ammo supply was stretched. The Swift is basically a Lee Enfield that c***s and fires exactly like the real thing but you must have the spring stock hard into your shoulder and instead of firing bullets two needle like spikes pop out the end to pierce a paper target. Very strange things, not rare but certainly quite collectible.

A very unusual World War l medal grouping to Royal West Kent Regiment soldier. Includes a fairly scarce overseas Territorial Service Medal of which only 34,000 were issued, making it the rarest of the WWI service medals. these are all original and correctly named but have replacement ribbons. I have checked the medal rolls and this was the full compliment of medals this soldier received. A pre war Territorial soldier who immediately volunteered for overseas service, made it through the war and then served in Afghanistan in 1919. He would have been an interesting guy to have a chat with !

Ok, I admit it I’m a toyaholic. But up until today I had never even seen the first ever Scalextric cars from 1957 never mind having the chance to add them to my collection. But look what turned up today in lovely condition and amazingly still with the little drivers. Very few of these around now but. It’s amazing what still comes to light. These are keepers for a little while at least.

Picked this up last week and cleaned up lovely. Mappin & Webb solid silver and Palladium wine cooler with full hallmarks. Thought of keeping it for keeping my coke cool but it sold online in 5 minutes flat. A very extravagant piece.
