Hello fellow small businesses and customers. Unfortunately I heard the scammers are at it again, and this time not fake markets but with a lot of counterfeit Twenty pound notes being circulated.

I was told in Oxfam in Penicuik today they are not accepting £20's after taking a big hit recently.

The real notes are easily identifiable if you just have a quick check. Here are the links of what to look for in genuine Scottish and English notes.

I myself have felt offended when people scrutinising notes but going to have to get over that and encourage shopkeepers and stall holders to take their time and feel confident in accepting payments.

Please share this post around your networks. It is coming into Craft and Fete Season and we are all doing our best to keep trading in really hostile circumstances.

Penicuik Storehouse over a number of years has grown a very special place in my heart.
They do so much work to help local people and this includes training and supporting young adults into employment, hosting community groups for new parents, Gaelic conversation groups and hanging exhibitions of local artists and makers.
They also have a great cafe, with a community meal every Wednesday and a refillery and a wide selection of fair trade and local groceries.
If you have not visited before go in and check it out. Treat yourself to the best Scone in Scotland!
I popped in to top up my shelf today and I also got 2 books from the collection ( payment by donation)

I really think Roger Kelly would be proud of how the Storehouse which he started from a room in his house, supports the High Street, the Community and is surviving in very tough operating conditions.

The Chief Toerag took part in Midlothians Climate Action Creative Competition. This is my entry. I was really surprised and delighted to be voted runner up. Looking forward to taking my voucher to the fabulous Pen-Y~Co Press. It was an uplifting event and an antidote to the news. Check it out. They have grants of up to £1500 for community organisations to realise projects to support the environment.

Music on the Green.

There is no quick fix to planting love of a place, and Love grown that fosters care is sorely needed .

Hearts and hands that hold a Green Bough need nurturing, not forced like Hothouse Orchids , which can never be expected to live or thrive in the Wild

So it might be silly, but I wish our community could have a Bandstand to grow around. Where all generations can gather; hear and play music, filling the wee toon Penicuik with stories, love, laughter and dance.

A space that entices us to wake up from screens and truly see the beauty of the here and now,

Round the bandstand the guerrilla gardeners are busily filling the planters and window boxes with herbs and flowers ; that tattoo memories with the scent of lavender and rosemary and all the colours of life.

With no pesticides sprayed, the wildflowers fill the verges and dance with the humming thrum of winged things, buzzing lazily in the summer, pollinating the fruit trees and pollinating a pulsating baseline for the music of the bandstand.

This wee town has time to nurture the wild spaces outwith and within; and space for the magic of starlight.
