We thought we had a clear flue...
What we found:
โข Flue was swept and rods came out of the chimney pot
โข So initially, everything suggested it was clear
โข Liner dropped a couple of metresโฆ then jammed solid
โข Hidden obstruction inside the chimney
โข Thick creosote build-up & mortar โsnotsโ stuck to the inside of the flue
What was wrong:
โข The flue wasnโt actually clear despite passing a sweep
โข Internal diameter restricted in places
โข Liner physically couldnโt pass through
What we did:
โข Opened up the chimney breast in the loft
โข Found the exact restriction point
โข Removed heavy creosote build-up & cleared out the mortar deposits
โข Checked the route was fully clear
โข Continued with the liner install
โข Made good the hole in the breast afterwards
Reality of it:
โข Added 2โ3 hours to the job
โข Charged as extra due to hidden obstruction
If a liner wonโt go, thereโs always a reason. So if you want the installation to proceed, our job is to find it and sort it properly.
