On the table this week ✂️

This beauty from Charlotte Gaisford is becoming a Roman blind and it’s been a pleasure to work with. Bright, fresh colours printed on a lovely cloth. It’s the kind of print that feels both classic and fresh at the same time.
Before a single cut is made, it’s all about the setting out. Squaring up, measuring twice (or three times!!) and making sure the pattern is perfectly centred so those wavy stripes run true down each side. With a design this bold, there’s nowhere to hide and that’s exactly why we love it!

A client has asked me to recover some of her old sofa cushions…

So on my recent trip to London I thought I’d search for a good match.

Even with so much choice it’s very difficult to find a perfect match to both the colour and the type of fabric… although in this case I think the original fabric isn’t the best type for upholstery.

Anyway… there are lots of swatches heading my way this week

After all the hard work of making beautiful bespoke curtains the finishing touches are so important.

Sometimes we dress the curtains before they leave the studio. This pair were left to show the difference between curtains that are just popped on to the track and ones where time is spent creating each fold evenly and precisely. The curtains are then loosely tied into shape for a day so they learn to return to these folds when opened and closed.

Before it gets too messy… although I’ve promised myself that it won’t!… here it is! The shiny new space that I now get to work in every day.

In the heart of Penzance, the bustle of Causewayhead happening outside my window. And the delicious dangerously close by! I can monitor the queue from my window and dash down when there is a rare lull.. for them & me!

The natural light here is wonderful and such a precious thing when considering colour schemes whether it be fabrics, papers or paints.

Because as wise ole Dolly says.. no one knows what’s around the corner… take the opportunities when they arise… take the chances and be brave… with a little luck, a lot of hard work you can conquer the fear of losing.

On the move…

A weekend of dismantling, moving, sorting & re building and wondering if I’d rather have a trade that required a lot less stuff! If all I had was a laptop…

I’ve been very lucky to have lots of strong helping hands and friends with vans. It will be worth it soon I’m sure!

Out of the country and into the city…

After 5 years in this wonderful converted milking parlour I’m off to pastures new… I’ll be opening the door on Monday morning to a very different studio.
This little place felt like a huge leap of faith 5 years ago and so, so much has happened in that time.. with work & with life. As ever the two are so inextricably linked.
Now there’s a new chapter and a new door to step through.
Can’t wait!!
