This absolutely breaks my heart! So sad to be losing my go to yarn shop 😭
AN IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FROM JULIE COWAN, OWNER, TRURO WOOL
After twelve wonderful years, it is with sadness that I share the news that Truro Wool will be closing for business on Monday 30th March 2026.
This decision to close has been made with a very heavy heart and has not been taken lightly. Truro Wool has been my passion, my joy, and my second home for over a decade, and the thought of closing is genuinely heart-breaking.
The reason for the closure is ongoing and unresolved issues with the shop building, including a persistent leak that has not been fixed. With the building currently up for sale, this leaves us facing continued uncertainty around repairs, rent increases, and our ability to remain as tenants. The shop lease has reached a natural break point; combined with the wider economic pressures facing all small independent retailers, I do not feel able to commit to another multi-year lease.
I have explored alternative premises but have not been able to find a suitable space for Truro Wool, and so have taken the difficult decision to close. What the future holds is still unclear. I’m not ruling out reopening if the perfect premises arise, or continuing with teaching in some form, but I will be taking a break over the summer. If you’d like, there is an option to stay in touch to receive any future updates.
I want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who has supported me over the years. It is because of all of you that I have been able to fulfil my lifelong ambition to run a yarn shop. Your loyalty, your willingness to support various community yarn projects, and your votes of support - leading to us consistently placing among the top 3 yarn shops in the South West for the last 5 years - have meant so much. Thank you.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the team behind me, Liz and Heather - thank you both.
Your collective loyalty, creativity, kindness, and support of my small, independent business has been inspirational and I will miss you all. Now more than ever, please do continue to support your local independent businesses… they can only do what they do with your wonderful support.
I wish all of you many more hours of yarn filled happiness.
With heartfelt thanks,
Julie,
Owner, Truro Wool
