After years of campaigning, the new Mental Health Bill began the process of being approved by the UK parliament last week. This is a big win for Rethink Mental Illness. The current Mental Health Act is badly out of date and people severely affected by mental illness did not have a fair say in their treatment. Whilst welcoming this change, there is still a long way to go. After years of campaigning, consulting and amending, the new Mental Health Bill was introduced to Parliament on 6 November 2024. This is a huge step towards modernising the dated laws that dictate what happens when someone is detained under the Mental Health Act.
