About Us
Hello, my name is Hayley Lee and I am the person behind Crafty Cabin Plymouth. I have always been interested in creating things, from Christmas Decorations to plant pots, to various bits and bobs with the children as they have been growing up. The last 14 years I have worked in a school, delivering workshops across a broad variety of subjects. I have also studied counselling and have a r
eal passion for engaging, with positivity, with all sorts of different people. During the pandemic, to achieve some calm in what could be described as a “Chaotic Household”, I took my crafting to another level, and I can honestly say that I think it is this that kept my mind calm, throughout a difficult time. I’ve always had a passion for sharing “positive things”, so join this with my previous experience, passion for making, various courses in glass fusing and operating a kiln – starting Crafty Cabin Plymouth seemed the obvious thing to do. Glass fusing is essentially the technique of joining two or more pieces of glass by heat in a kiln. One of the first things to know about glass fusing is that you don’t have to be an artist or gifted with endless creativity – you just need to want to have fun, doing something a little bit different. Other techniques might include :-
• Glass slumping - to heat glass sufficiently so that it bends under its own weight, taking the shape of the mould on which it rests.
• Glass casting - filling a mould with glass, then heating until the glass is molten so it fully takes the shape of the mould. Half Day Workshops – 3 hours, £40 per person
This fun introduction to glass fusing is suitable for beginners and returning glass lovers. It is also a lovely activity to do with your child aged 12+. During these half day workshops, you will learn about the nature of specialist glass, fusing techniques and how to cut glass. This knowledge will help you to go on to create up to three items, that will be fired in a kiln and ready for collection in a few days. All tools and equipment are included, together with tea coffee and cake! A friendly, helpful smile is always on hand too. I love to help you throughout the workshop, but also get real satisfaction out of watching you use the techniques I teach you along the way.
