I made it to the 2nd day of the Contemporary Craft Festival in Bovey Tracey!

I soaked up all the lovely craftyness and even managed to have a catch up with Marissa from Marissa Thereze for the first time in quite a number of yearsπŸ˜‰
Shes an amazing machine knitter with beautiful scarves, cowls and jumpers ; she is even offering 1 to 1 sessions at the craft fair- do check her out, i spent too long chatting I forgot to take photos of her work πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

I also made a bee-line for

This is my kindle holder! Aka the Lumi Pouch by

It's my first time being a pattern tester (i felt a bit more comfortable sewing something with straight edges for my first go).

I answered the call out from Kim for testers along with some fellow sewists and we all went about sewing one up and sending in our feedback.

I had fun creating the gathers and it was great that she made us a video to show how to tackle the tricky corner. It's a lovely little pattern which also shows how to quilt the outer fabric and make a button and loop fastening.

One issue I did run into was choosing a directional print: do watch out if you do- with mine you might just notice the front pattern is actually upside down πŸ˜… but luckily it's not too bigbof an issue witb this print really.

I think its also a good base pattern that could be altered for all sorts of other little bags: I can see easily that the button could be replaced for a magnetic clasp crearing a clutch bag or even velcro for something light. You could add a strap or little handle too. There are 3 sizes included in the pattern - for different types of ereaders, but you could make it any size you need!

Pop over to her page and you can buy the pattern to download immediately πŸ‘

🧡 Always in need of plain thread colours

πŸ‘œMicrotex needles are my current favs for rough fabrics and very fine..

🧢Wool needles- as my various bodkin needles are too big to sew in overlocker threads

πŸͺ‘ Fancy-looking Sewing machine needle threader

β–ͺ️Forming tape- heard good things about this stuff, although didnt realise I ordered the black version!

πŸ”² Also bought some Ivory Viscose Linen, which was on offer but its gone straight into the wash πŸ‘

Ive almost finished the 5 days of the Fit-abulous Fit Bootcamp with Tricia from Creative Costume Academy. It was very fun πŸ€—
We learnt a new way to translate fitting adjustments from fabric back to the paper pattern and lots of hints and tips along the way.
Tricia has boundless energy and is very generous with her knowlege πŸ‘‡

https://youtube.com/ is the place to find her and join her tribe.

Next bootcamp happens in the Autumn!

Im working through the Creative Costume Academy 's fitting bootcamp this week. I'm quite late to the party but Tricia makes it very fun, and i'm already picking up things i didnt know.
I really like learning from different people πŸ‘

If you can't make it to this Bootcamp, follow her accounts and there's another one in the Autumn.
Ps. There are also prizes to be won πŸ€—πŸ€ž

In my other life I am a library assistant; so World Book Day meant dressing up time. Always a tricky one, but inspirarion took over when i dug out this dress from Joaine- what book could I get to match? The Great British Sewing Bee of course or any of my sewing books would work! 🧡

I added a big button as a necklace, bobbins as earrings, a tape measure round my cardigan and voila!

In retrospect there were so many more things I could have added ( pin cushion hat?! Haberdashery in my hair ..) but this was a last minute/ on the day ah ha moment, my usual is going as The Rainbow fish by Pfister 🐟

I dont usually wear dresses, although I like this shape. Does anyone know of a pattern that is similar? It would be fun to make in different patterned fabrics

It was lovely to hear all about Fauve and Asmaa's time on the Great British Sewing Bee -Series 9 ( 2023) at the weekend.

The Bees were doing the afternoon talk at the South West Quilter's Christmas Meeting (I was invited to attend by my mother-in-law who is a member 😍)

It was a fun talk full of extra info on what went on during filming. They bought some of their makes from the series which we could all have a look through at the end and answered loads of our burning questions.

They now run a side business together on top of their day jobs ( solicitor and surgeon!) in Wales and have started retreats too.

A couple of weeks ago and I went to for a workshop on manipulating fabric.
It was nice to settle down and do some detailed work that I don't think I would have managed to do at at home.
The teacher had made the gorgeous jacket (that I am modelling in the pics!)
I also had a go at gathering and a scalloped hem πŸ‘Œ

16 weeks (+ school hols) of classes has whizzed by in a whirlwind of bodice blocks, trouser blocks, dress blocks and peacock themed tailored jackets 🦚( will leave that for another post!).

I now understand a lot more about the creation of patterns and it has made me look at commercial ones in a whole new light. I can't look at shop bought clothes now either without having a good nose at the seam finishes, hems and dart positionsπŸ˜…

It also makes me marvel at the role of a pattern cutter: someone who can look at a drawing/design and can fathom how to turn it into a reality. Unsung heros of the fashion world I think!

I will really miss the routine the course gave me, the college day, the college cafe(!) and the awesome ladies on the course; our fountain of knowledge Kim (pattern cutter extrordinaire), and the daily discussions about bodies and b***s!

I don't think I'll miss the commute or early(er) mornings, although I did get through a ton of podcasts enroute which was great πŸ˜…

It feels like we've just got into the swing of things and it's all over. But for want of a better saying, the clichΓ©, 'it's only just the start' of my pattern cutting journey- fits quite well here i think.

I've decided to join an online membership run by Kate from , so hopefully this will keep me chugging away at making blocks for myself and trying to actually make adaptions of my own too🀞
Even putting my own measurements onto a commercial pattern has been a bit of a revelation recently!

Not sure how to sign off but hope youve enjoyed the update πŸ‘ (It's taken ages to write, and then insta deletedall the annotated photos!)

Ps.I found project patterns through a great podcast that kate co-presented a few years ago now, ( it's still available to listen to via Spotify etc and gives a facinating insight into the pattern cutting world)

Went to check out my painting in situ along with 80+ on the hoardings just outside in a little cul-de-sac in Tavistock Place.

I tried taking a selfie but alas just half my face and half my painting πŸ˜…

Little video for context and a selection of my favourites paintings.

Check out for more info.
