16 weeks (+ school hols) of classes has whizzed by in a whirlwind of bodice blocks, trouser blocks, dress blocks and peacock themed tailored jackets π¦( will leave that for another post!).
I now understand a lot more about the creation of patterns and it has made me look at commercial ones in a whole new light. I can't look at shop bought clothes now either without having a good nose at the seam finishes, hems and dart positionsπ
It also makes me marvel at the role of a pattern cutter: someone who can look at a drawing/design and can fathom how to turn it into a reality. Unsung heros of the fashion world I think!
I will really miss the routine the course gave me, the college day, the college cafe(!) and the awesome ladies on the course; our fountain of knowledge Kim (pattern cutter extrordinaire), and the daily discussions about bodies and b***s!
I don't think I'll miss the commute or early(er) mornings, although I did get through a ton of podcasts enroute which was great π
It feels like we've just got into the swing of things and it's all over. But for want of a better saying, the clichΓ©, 'it's only just the start' of my pattern cutting journey- fits quite well here i think.
I've decided to join an online membership run by Kate from , so hopefully this will keep me chugging away at making blocks for myself and trying to actually make adaptions of my own tooπ€
Even putting my own measurements onto a commercial pattern has been a bit of a revelation recently!
Not sure how to sign off but hope youve enjoyed the update π (It's taken ages to write, and then insta deletedall the annotated photos!)
Ps.I found project patterns through a great podcast that kate co-presented a few years ago now, ( it's still available to listen to via Spotify etc and gives a facinating insight into the pattern cutting world)
