This lace wedding dress had to be shortened in the front only so the bride wouldn't trip over it. But because it has a beautiful scalloped lace hem at the bottom, the alteration had to be made from the waist. This is a complex procedure that involves detaching the skirt from the bodice, removing the excess fabric from the top of the skirt, and reattaching the skirt to preserve its beautiful lace hem and train exactly as they were.

From Oversized to a Perfect Fit
Before: A woman needed to buy a men’s XL sweatshirt to fit across her very large bust—but now of course it was much too long, with extra wide sleeves and dropped shoulders.

After: I narrowed and reset the sleeves, raised the shoulder line, and shortened the body to create a comfortable, flattering fit.
“It makes me look slimmer,” said the delighted client.

The Burn Mark - A Case of Invisible Mending
A customer came to me feeling desperate. He had recently bought a lovely summer suit with shorts, but a small burn mark had spoiled them.

“Can you work your magic?” he asked.

“I’ll try,” I replied.

Using a specialist invisible-mending technique, I carefully reworked the damaged area to blend with the original blue-and-white stripes.
Can you still spot the burn mark in the AFTER photo? The magnified close-up shows the fine detail behind the repair.

A well-loved jacket doesn’t need replacing just because it needs a little care.
This customer came in hoping to “recycle” her denim jacket. Together, we decided to shorten it, take in the waist and change the buttons. She is now happily wearing her transformed jacket as though it were new.

A better fit can completely change the look of a suit. I can change an off the peg suit to look like taylor-made.
This illustration shows how taking in the waist of a jacket and tapering the trousers can create a cleaner, sharper silhouette — while keeping the suit comfortable to wear.

A bride-to-be came in yesterday with a beautiful wedding dress.
The only problem? The dress was floor-length, so she was treading on it while walking.
She asked me to shorten just the front, while keeping the lovely longer train and sides exactly as they were. A small change can make a big difference to comfort and confidence. Besides, now her ankles were showing which made the dress even more sexy.

If, like so many ladies, you’re a size 14 but on the short side, you’ll know how difficult it can be to find a dress that’s the right length without losing the shape and style you love.

This neckline was quite tricky to make with all the little elasticated loops to take the tiny buttons, but I do love such challenges.

My granddaughter had an idea for summer wear that she wanted to make: a lace-up top and matching rara shorts. So together we got to work and this is the result. Not bad for her very first sewing project.
