Another find! This mark is from a piece of W H Grindley & Co English Pottery. I only have the base so I don't know exactly what it's from!
William Harry Grindley and Alfred Meakin established the W H Grindley & Company in 1880. When Alfred left in 1884, William become sole proprietor. Grindley began producing ceramics at the Newfield Pottery in Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent. In 1891, the company expanded and moved to the Woodfield pottery (also in Tunstall). The company manufactured a wide range of earthenware and ironstone pieces with the intention of exporting to the USA, South America, Canada and Australia. Grindley used transfers to create the pattern designs, which eliminated the need for skilled designers and painters. Products included dinnerware services, pitchers and platters.
I love researching these pieces! There is so much history behind them!
