So almost 30 years later, I finally got to see my final BTEC National Diploma project from Preston College come to virtual life.

DUNE, a retail concept I designed for a spa at Winckley Square, Preston, has gone from a student design board to a AI 3D rendered interior.

The original mood board is hand drawn and rendered!

It's a surreal, full circle moment and a reminder that good design ideas never really have an expiry date. ❤️✨

Rewind to Salford University, 1999-2002... ⏪

One of our design briefs was to create a restaurant inspired by the work of an artist.

I chose one of my favorites Paul Klee.

His use of bold geometry, layered colour and abstract composition became the foundation of the entire concept. Every design decision, from the colour palette and lighting to the furniture, materials and spatial layout, was influenced by his work. Rather than simply hanging artwork on the walls, I wanted the restaurant to feel like you had stepped inside one of his paintings.

Looking back 25 years later, it's fascinating to see how this project shaped the way I still design today. Great interiors don't start with furniture. They start with a story.

Rewind in time... ⏪

One of my university projects imagined a bold, contemporary bar inserted into the historic Haighton Manor near Preston, which was unoccupied at the time.

The concept explored the contrast between old and new, preserving the character of the original building while introducing a sleek, floating modern bar at its heart. Even back then, I was fascinated by how contemporary design could breathe new life into heritage spaces without erasing their history.

Looking back, it's interesting to see how this project still reflects the way I approach design today. Sometimes the most exciting interiors come from celebrating the tension between past and present.
