In my work it can be a while between starting a project and finishing it.
Some projects are years in the making. This week we have finally broken ground on a project about two years in the making since the clients asked me to come on board. It’s been well over a year since planning went in.
In that time we have designed, planned, prepared, sourced, discussed, priced, researched, reviewed and updated plans and proposals, visited suppliers, had meetings with architects, meetings with clients. Sent countless emails, created drawings, renders and proposals.
In theory everything is in place, every detail has been planned for a smooth build… but inevitably there were at least four issues to discuss with the builders and architects this week after the first phase of stripping out has begun, all of which will have some implications on the final design, be it a change to a roof line, the change of construction or a wall, or a discovery leading to a change of internal dimensions!
It will be at least 9 months until I have some beautiful images to show you of this project….! Im a perfectionist and Im very visual so Im less interested in posting progress pictures…. frankley alot of them are less than pretty!! But my job is not all about the pretty…. in fact its a bit like an iceberg… only about 20% of it is the pretty sparkly stuff you see on the surface…. most of it is what goes on underneath! Behind the scenes! The nuts and bolts you never see!
But heres a photo of a very pretty kitchen that is part of a nearly finished project. This is the part of my job that makes my heart sing, when I see all the planning and preparation coming to fruition…. and I can post a pretty picture to show you!!
And in the mean time Im going to try harder to show up here with more of the day to day, even when its not all polished and pretty!!
