Here are some ideas to bring flat surfaces to life.

Salt, rope, coffee grounds, copper wire, couscous, lace, rice.......

Have you ever used anything unconventional?

We have use a copper carbonate + red iron oxide wash on our tiles to really bring them to life.

Manganese Carbonate is primarily used as a colourant and also a speckling agent.

* Rich mottled blacks, browns and plum purples.
* Metallic effects when applied heavily.
* Mix with cobalt to create vivid violets.
* Mix with iron to create deep browns.

Top 5 Luster Tips

1) Use one coat only, don't be tempted to do more, even if it looks streaky.

2) Wipe piece with thinners to clean surface of any grease or dust prior to application.

3) Allow to dry completely before firing.

4) Thinners can be used to clean brushes.

5) Experiment by applying over different coloured base glaze, to achieve interesting results
