Not all condensation on double glazing means the same thing. 👀

Here’s a quick homeowner test:

💧 On the inside of the glass?
Usually linked to moisture and ventilation inside the home.

💧 On the OUTSIDE of the glass?
Surprisingly, this can actually be a sign that your glazing is doing a good job of keeping heat inside.

💧 Trapped BETWEEN the two panes?
That’s the one to investigate. It can indicate that the seal on the glazed unit has failed.

So next time you see a misted-up window, check which side of the glass it’s actually on before assuming something’s wrong.

🚪 Choosing a new front door from a tiny picture on a screen isn’t quite the same as seeing it in front of you.

Colour, texture, glass, handles… there are plenty of things that are much easier to judge in person.

Quick home security test… which one are you?

When you leave the house, do you:

A) Pull the door shut and walk away
B) Lift the handle and turn the key
C) Lift the handle, lock it AND remove the key

According to Police.uk, C is the one to remember for modern multi-point locking/uPVC doors: lift, lock, remove.

Good security isn't only about buying a strong door. You need to use the locking system properly too.

It's one reason security is such a big part of the doors we supply. CDM's Rockdoors, for example, include 3-star locking cylinders, solid steel hook locks and steel reinforcement within the door.

“Why have my nice new windows got little vents in them? Aren’t they supposed to keep draughts OUT?”

It’s one of those features that can look slightly counterintuitive.

Those are trickle vents, and they have an important job.

Replacing older windows can make a home more airtight. Building Regulations require that replacement work doesn’t leave the ventilation in a property worse than it was beforehand, so background ventilation may need to be provided.

And here’s another one people often don’t realise: simply leaving a window locked slightly open on its “night vent” isn’t considered a suitable substitute for background ventilation.

So that little slot at the top of the window isn’t an afterthought.

It’s helping your home breathe.

All CDM engineers hold CERTASS certification, so the less visible details of an installation matter just as much as how the finished windows look.

What hasn't changed is where we're from.
