So apparently we are at the start of meteorological spring. So far it's been a very soggy start!

I've been playing with colour blending, textures and clipping masks in Procreate and discovering some really cool effects. I wish I knew how to do this when I created a rainbow blend piece last year where I blended all the colours by hand using the smudge brush 🙈🤦‍♀️

Ah, the Blue Pumpkin AKA The Ink Drainer...

This was the second nib I worked with. I'd seen a lot of calligraphers using it and I thought I'd give it a go too.

At first I hated it.

Super flexible (not great for my heavy hand) and ink drained out of it like water through a sieve. I had to experiment to get the right ink consistency so that it stayed on the nib for more than one stroke and eventually was able to use it to create my first collection of Christmas cards.

I'll be honest...I rarely use it. Its not a nib I enjoy working with although I've seen others use it to create beautiful calligraphy.

Where it all began....

Sorting through my calligraphy stuff last night I thought I'd go back and revisit the nib it all tharted with; the Nikko G. It's a beginner favourite and I can see why. Good contrast between up and down strokes although my up strokes are a bit sketchy on this textured card. A nice nib that works as a small to medium scale.

I'll be going through some other nibs I have stashed in my tin. Next up will be the 'blue pumpkin'.

Remember my off the cuff composition from Friday?

Well I tried to get the words to work together as a piece but I couldn't make it work.

This version, however, makes me very happy.

I need to find some more lyrics to letter. Miley is playing on loop in my head far too much!

I feel it's time we moved on from Crimbo Linbo...

My word of the year for 2024.

I realised recently that I'd lost my way. Chasing goals that weren't really mine. Striving to create something that I was never really capable of or really wanted.

So this year, we align and go after the goals and dreams that are mine and not anyone else's.

Last year I cottoned on the the phrase 'Twixtmas'. This year I discovered 'Crimbo Limbo' and I think I prefer it.

You can find me in the gym, playing with my calligraphy supplies, or ploughing my way through my extensive cheeseboard. 11 varieties this year. Yum!

These three words sum up my week.

I seem to be developing a really annoying seasonal tradition.

For this is the third year in a row that I've managed to catch Covid.

Pah!

I've spent some quality time on the sofa this week. We really need to get a new one!

Hope you've all had a decent week. On the plus side, it is now officially Chocolate for Breakfast Season!

I don't know about you, but continuing the autumnal, spooking seeon calligraphy vibes feels very odd when we are in the current throes of warm weather.

However, inspired by a recent video by I had to give her spider web design a try and create my own version.

As for the background, I'm channelling the Grotbags the Witch vibes!
