Common Interior Design Myths...

1. It's only for the wealthy.

Interior Design is an investment that returns.

(When you use the right designer!)

Optimising the layout
Focus on impactful areas
Clever use of existing features
Customer experience focused

These things are what will set your business apart.

2. It just follows trends.

Trends have their place but should be used with caution.

You want the design to be timeless to ensure return on your investment.

Ensuring that the design works within the building it's set, that materials are used for longevity and it suits your brand are paramount for a timeless design.

3. They'll just make it pretty.

A commercial Interior Designer thinks in business-focused design.

If it doesn't work for you and your staff, it won't work for your customers either.

You want proud staff that have buy in to the design process and love the changes being made.

You want to make their job easier by ensuring they have the space, layout and storage that optimises their work.

Happy staff breed happy customers.

These are just a few!

Have any others you can think of?

Pop them in the comments and we'll answer them!

(Some of them might be true 😆)

Do things that don't scale.

As an independent design studio (read small) we can move at a pace most can't.

Quick turnarounds are achieved by:

- Direct access to your designer
- Simplified paperwork
- Clear and concise communication
- Expert knowledge
- Project experience
- Figuring things out on the fly
- Accountability
- Honesty

I've been looking at my vision for the business lately and what came up was something that isn't easy to manage but that I won't trade in for anything.

My clients have direct access to me via phone/WhatsApp whenever they need me.

While everyone else is "creating boundaries" and working "business hours", we’re chatting to passionate business owners about fresh ideas and inspiration.

We love this sh*t.

So it's something that won't scale in our business...

But we don't care.

First...imagine some soft jazz as a backdrop.

You've come to try that new saxophone you've had your eye on.

You're greeted at the front desk and asked to take a seat while we get you a drink from the bar.

"It's like a spa come jazz club, I could sit here all day."

The selection of instruments you wanted to try are all set up for you in a dedicated, designed testing room.

Already taken out of the case and inspected to ensure they're in tip top shape.

You escape the everyday and step into the music.

You think you've found the one.

As you sit and gaze across to the aquarium, you contemplate the beautiful sounds you'll create.

You're given a full review of the instrument and you're supported for a lifetime through the repair workshop.

I'll take it!.....................................

Dawkes launched after a year of working on this very special expansion project.

We tripled the size of their store to allow them to expand the number of customers they can serve.

They needed a store that matches their service level.

No stone was left unturned here. Every part of the customer journey is baked into the essence of the design.

The experience is now complete.

PS: That's a real quote up there ^ from a customer on day 1 of opening. Could not be more proud.

A dining room fit for a king!

The King's Head in Aylesbury is a special one for us.

A National Trust heritage site that needed a careful touch to bring it back to life. Our oldest building so far and part of the Chiltern Brewery family.

We combined the historic features and Brewery memorabilia to create a new dining area of the pub.

They have this dining room alongside their everyday pub and courtyard patio so it can be enjoyed all year round.

This is a destination not to be missed.

As interior designers specialising in hospitality, we see these mistakes all the time. And they could be the reason potential customers choose another venue over yours. Let’s break them down:
❌Your First Impression Is Weak
Think about your venue’s exterior. What does it tell customers at a glance? A tired, uninviting facade, poor lighting, or unclear signage can make people walk away. You want to create curiosity and desire. A glimpse of the atmosphere inside, an open door that feels inviting, and branding that sticks. Does your pub have that “come on in” feel?
❌You Haven’t Designed for Staff Efficiency
Ever waited too long at the bar for a drink or? Annoying, right? That’s often due to poor layout and flow. Happy, stress-free staff work faster and better, which means more drinks and happier customers who stay longer. If your staff is constantly bumping into each other or struggling behind the bar, your design is costing you money.
❌You’re Blending in Instead of Standing Out
Someone takes a photo inside your pub and posts it online. Can people instantly tell where they are? If not, your venue lacks identity. Whether it’s a standout colour scheme, a unique feature wall, or a signature lighting design—your space should be instantly recognizable. In today’s online world, your venue is free marketing… if you design it right.
🔥 Your pub’s design isn’t just about looks—it’s about profit. Are you making any of these mistakes? Let’s talk in the comments! 👇

These two pub transformations prove that the right design can turn things around BIG TIME!👇"

🎯 First venue: High Street Bar – From Chaos to Clarity
This bar was trying to be everything. A daytime family café, a nighttime music venue, and an event space. The result? Customers were confused, engagement was low, and revenue was slipping. They even considered closing. 😰

💡 The Fix: We focused on one strong identity. A gaming bar with interactive darts & shuffleboard. We designed for a social, shareable experience with bold neon accents, optimised layout, and a space that made sense.

🔥 The Result? TRIPLED weekly revenue. Google rating from 3.6 → 4.8. Launch day queues out the door. This is the power of strategic design.

🏡 Second venue: Village Pub – Reviving a Forgotten Gem
A historic coaching inn, left abandoned and struggling to attract customers. The biggest issue? A dark, uninviting interior and failed past renovations that never quite worked.

💡 The Fix: Instead of fighting the past, we leaned into it. We celebrated its character, restoring original stonework and terracotta tiles, layering warm lighting, and mixing antique & modern seating for a cozy, welcoming atmosphere.

🍻 The Result? A thriving local pub with happy regulars, smashing revenue targets, and consistently high ratings.

✨ What’s the takeaway?
Your space isn’t just a backdrop—it’s a business tool. A well-designed venue attracts the right customers, encourages word-of-mouth marketing, and boosts revenue.

Olde Coach House - Ashby St Ledgers

The newest edition to the family.

With it's rural village location we needed to get the balance right between giving the locals a place to feel at home and a destination pub to attract others in.

This one had some tricky areas that previous tenants had struggled to decorate in the right way to get the most out of each space.

The main bar had very little natural light so the lighting design was a big focus.

We restored the original floors and used those to inform the rest of the design to make it feel like it's always been this way.

What they have now is a wonderful, thriving, good old pub with some cracking grub, and you might even share your meal with a view of the horses and sheep out back.

Get yourself over there if you're in Northamptonshire. It's a fabulous spot 👌
