Hello 👋🏻
We've had a flurry of followers since my Facebook post on Thursday. Thank you for all the shares and for all the messages from people who will put our poster up for us.

I thought that those of you who haven't visited yet might like to see some pictures of my little shop. It's my pride and joy! Along with my dog. And the kids.

I'm Nicola (I tried to do a video so you could see my face, but all 12 takes were rubbish!) and opened The Hive just over five years ago because I love yarn and crafting. I wanted to create a welcoming space for people to meet and to learn or pass on their knowledge to others. I've met lots of lovely people along the way and have lost count of the number of people I've taught to crochet!

Since opening, I've been joined by Amy, Debbie and Donna and between us, we run the shop and the groups, teach people to knit and crochet, run workshops and make an awful lot of tea! They are a wonderful gang and are always happy to help you choose your next project or help with your current one.

You'll probably also encounter my daughters (Islay and Esme) as well at the actual boss, Miss Harley, the Jack Russell cross. She might bark, but that's her way of telling you to say hello to her. But if you don't like dogs, we will keep her away from you. x

Thank you for all the responses to my post yesterday 😊 I wasn't expecting so many offers and reactions, so that really made my day. I hope to be able to send copies of the poster out to those who've asked for one tomorrow. If I can return the favour for your business or group, I'd be happy to.

Good morning! Happy Friday 😊

Yesterday we had an exciting delivery of some new yarn from Stylecraft Yarns. It's called Floki and it turns into the most gorgeous felted items! There are both knitting and crochet patterns for bags, baskets and slippers and there are loads of stunning colours to choose from. I think I'd like to make a bag or a little den for Miss Harley 🐕 Or coasters? A tea cosy? Hot water bottle cover? Whatever you decide to make, the hardest decision will be choosing the colours!

Good morning! A beautiful start to the day.

We're open from 10am until 8pm today and I hope the latest order from Stylecraft will arrive too!

From 6pm, we'll be in our craft room for crochet club at the back of the building. That means the front door will be locked, but there'll be a notice in the door with a phone number to ring for access. Xx

We have quite a lot of fun and creative workshops coming up over the next couple of months, so I thought I'd share them all in one post. You can try your hand at lots of different activities - crochet, needle felting, paper quilling, wire work, book binding and hand knitting.

For the crochet, you will need to bring your crochet hooks, but we will have spares on hand for you to borrow if you don't have the right sizes on the day. You will also need to be able to crochet the basic stitches.🧶 For all the other workshops, you won't need any prior knowledge or experience and all tools and materials will be provided.

We'll also have some light refreshments available for each of the workshops, so if you have any dietary requirements, please let us know.☕🍪

All workshop attendees will receive a 10% discount off the purchase of items at The Hive on the afternoon / evening of their workshops. (This doesn't include sale items, future workshops or classes.)

If you fancy any of these workshops, then we'll ask for payment in advance to secure your space. These fees aren't refundable in the event of your cancellation unless we can fill your spot. Please note that this will now incur an administration fee of up to £10 per person per workshop due to the additional unplanned work this incurs.

Good morning. We know, October is a bit early to be doing a Christmas workshop, but if you enjoy making any of the goodies we have in store, then you'll need plenty of time to stock up in time for the big day.

Join Nicola on Saturday 17th October and make reusable party crowns, Christmas cards with reusable decorations, a gift topper and an alternative to that foil curling ribbon.

All patterns and yarn is included in the cost of the workshop, but you'll need to bring your crochet hooks. (We will have spares on hand just in case.) Unfortunately, this workshop is not suitable for total beginners as you will need to know the basic crochet stitches and be able to quite confidently crochet in rows and rounds. Don't worry, we will not be expecting experts and we will help you if you get stuck!

On the afternoon of the workshop participants will receive a 10% discount off purchases in the shop and light refreshments will be included.

You'll need to pay in advance and your fee is not refundable in the event of your cancellation, unless we can fill your spot. We'll also make sure there is plenty of tea, coffee and snacks on hand.

Hurrah! One of our regular tutors is back with a new workshop for us! Kate's Keepsake Books and Creative Bindery is visiting on Friday 27th November at 6pm to show us how to make our own A5 hardback diary in readiness for 2027.

Kate will show you everything you need to know to bind your book and she always has a huge stash of papers and or fabrics to cover your masterpieces with. Choosing a pattern is always the hardest part of the session.

It's £48pp and that includes all tools and materials plus light refreshments. We will need payment in advance to secure your space and this is non-refundable in the event of your cancellation unless we can fill your spot. (This will now incur an admin fee of no more than £10.) In addition, you will receive a 10% discount of purchases of goods from The HIve on the evening of the event.
