Right, here’s how we repair cracks…
The MSL way.
First things first, we go straight in with the Hamilton precision scraper, opening up those cracks properly and removing any loose paint. You need a clean, solid surface to work with — no shortcuts.
Once that’s done, we give it a thorough hoover to remove all dust and debris.
Next, we apply Peel Stop, working it deep into the cracks and across the surface. This binds everything together, stabilises the area, and acts as a primer and sealer all in one.
Now for the important part — Toupret Fibre Filler.
Pay attention to this one.
It contains reinforcing fibres to help prevent cracks from reappearing. And trust me — it doesn’t crack. But it also doesn’t like sanding. So you need to apply it properly: lay it in, then lay it off flat. No heavy edges.
Although it doesn’t sand back easily, I still run the Mirka DEROS lightly over it just to flatten any minor edges. Just remember — fibre filler takes around 24 hours to fully cure.
After that, we apply scrim tape. Yes, I’ve gone heavy with it — but we’re making this as bulletproof as possible for the client.
Then it’s a skim of TX110 by Toupret.
One skim. One and done — if you know how to handle filler properly.
That’s followed by a gentle sand using Mirka Goldflex. Sometimes machine sanding can be too aggressive — hand finishing keeps it controlled.
Once that’s complete, we apply a light bead of caulk and allow a full day to dry.
Two coats of GoodHome from then we re-screw and refit the curtain batten — making sure not to fill over the fixing holes so there’s no re-measuring needed.
And there we have it.
A solid, long-lasting finish.
