It’s World Letter Writing Day, so here’s a letter to September 2027 me.

Dear Gemma,
Wow! What a spring and summer you’ve had! Perfect weddings, bursting with seasonal flowers. Couples and guests absolutely blown away by what you’ve created. You really paid them back for their trust in you and your vision for their day. You must be so proud of yourself!

The flower field continues to be really productive and you’ve worked so hard to grow a bountiful supply of your own flowers - that is no mean feat! The last couple of summers have been tough, haven’t they?!? Well done for sticking with it and knowing that what you do is worth the effort. Have you sown the 2028 hardy annuals yet? (Always best to check, you’re so in demand I wouldn’t want anything to slip)

Also, on a side note, how’s the recruiting going? Did you decide how many hours of what you need? I hear you’ve started horse riding lessons so you’ve freed up some time somewhere, haven’t you?!?

I tried to get on your workshop last month and it was fully booked with a waiting list. The photos of what everyone made look ace! I’m looking forward to the Christmas workshops. The Studio really is the perfect base for classes like yours.

Anyway, I want you to know how proud I am of you and all that you’ve achieved and continue to grow.

Now you’ve had a rest of the August Bank Holiday, time to crack on with last 6 weeks (or so!) of the flower season!

I’m still obsessed with this wedding from earlier this year! Soooo pretty!

I’m working on wedding quotes in the cool of my house (I can’t even bear to walk the 5minutes round round to the studio in this heat🥵!) and I had a thought…! Radical, I know!

In my wedding quotes and consultations I talk about vibe and feel more than varieties and fixed stem counts. Why?

Well, this allows me the freedom to create each item we’ve agreed on in the best way with the flowers which are looking best at the time of your wedding. A freak wet/ hot/ dry/ cold spell could hugely affect what’s available so I keep in regular contact with my growing buddies and allow them to be the experts in their (literal!) fields.

This is also why I want to meet you face-to-face; I want to see what lights you up, ask different questions depending on what comes up for you and know that regardless of the types of flowers, I will be able to create the perfect florals to complete your day.

If you enquire (and book!) with enough notice, I can even plan to grow flowers specifically for you! There are more orange dahlias in the field than usual because I need them for a wedding in a few weeks, for example!

A colourful thank you banger from last weekend.

There will be a brief hiatus in these beauts whilst I do some freelance work for another florist. Messages abs emails will be picked up but at the end of the day(s).

If you’ve already ordered, you’re good but otherwise it will be next week before any more can be done.

I’m also taking the brief pause in my own operations to make some changes to the business - still the same glorious local, British flowers just maybe a little more ease for me and you.
