DIY CALM DOWN BOTTLES 🧘♀️✨
Create your own sensory bottle to help promote relaxation and mindfulness. Perfect for both kids and adults, these bottles can be used when feeling anxious, upset, or just needing a peaceful moment.
Ingredients:
Clear plastic bottle or jar with a tight-fitting lid (about 8 oz or 16 oz)
1/4 cup clear glue (school glue or glitter glue)
1/2 cup warm water
1 tablespoon glitter (optional, for calming sparkle)
1–2 drops of food coloring (optional, for color)
1 tablespoon vegetable oil (to slow the glitter’s movement)
Optional: Small objects like beads, sequins, or small toys for added interest
Superglue or hot glue (to seal the lid)
Directions:
Prepare the Bottle: Start by cleaning and drying your plastic bottle or jar to ensure there’s no residue.
Mix the Glue and Water: In a bowl, mix the 1/4 cup of clear glue with 1/2 cup of warm water. Stir well until the glue is fully dissolved.
Add Glitter and Color: If you'd like a sparkling effect, add glitter to the mixture. You can also add a few drops of food coloring for a calming color effect (blue or purple are great for relaxation). Stir to combine.
Add Vegetable Oil: Slowly pour 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil into the bottle. The oil will help slow down the movement of the glitter and create a calming effect when shaken.
Add Optional Objects: For extra sensory fun, add a few small beads, sequins, or even tiny toys inside the bottle. These will create a gentle swirling effect when the bottle is tilted or shaken.
Fill the Bottle: Pour the glitter mixture into your bottle, leaving a little space at the top so you can seal it.
Seal the Lid: Apply superglue or hot glue around the edge of the bottle lid to ensure it’s tightly sealed. This will prevent any spills, especially if the bottle is shaken.
Shake and Enjoy: Gently shake your calm down bottle. Watch the glitter or objects swirl around and slowly settle. Use this calming visual and motion to help center your thoughts or calm down.
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Drying Time: 15–30 minutes (to glue and seal the lid)
Total Time: 30–45 minutes
Tips:
Color Choices: Light or cool colors like blue, purple, or green are great for calming.
Movement Control: If the glitter moves too fast, add more oil to slow it down. If it’s too slow, reduce the amount of oil.
Alternative Fillings: You can use items like small shells, beads, or buttons for different textures and sounds when shaken.
Storage: Keep the lid tightly sealed when not in use to prevent spills.
