Happy studio days hand building mini vases in the sunshine last week
1. Some of the minis on my table in various states of completion (+ coffee)
2. Using a wooden paddle to flatten the sides of this little kurinuki vase which was made by using carving tools to hollow out and shape a solid lump of clay
3. Joining two pinch pots together with a coil of clay to form a round vessel
4. I decided to add a neck to the round vase which I made using a wooden spout maker - normally I’d just use a pencil or my finger as invariably I completely forget I’ve got a specific told designed just for the job - the spout maker did great though and worked just as well as a pencil and much better than my finger
5. I played around with the neck making it a bit shorter as the proportions felt a bit off and I carved a little bit of decoration around the top
6. Adding some coils to the top of this slab built vase to make some sloping sides and a collar
7. Smoothing and refining the surface to finish it off
