I’m going to be really honest…
After 10 days at the pop up shop, I packed everything down, came home, unpacked it all again to put away… and I cried.
I think I was just absolutely exhausted.
10 days straight, open 10–5 every day, over Easter &
then coming home each evening and keeping on top of the business.
It was a lot.
And the reality is… I’d just spent 10 days working all day and all evening and barely covered my costs.
I felt so disheartened, overwhelmed and mentally, emotionally and physically drained.
My anxiety was through the roof and all the thoughts started creeping in…
maybe my business is just not good enough.
But… I had to give myself a reality check.
This is not failure, it’s another lesson in business.
This just isn’t my season.
This town is family orientated and people were away over Easter, so the footfall just wasn’t there.
And I had to remind myself…
on any other week during autumn/winter when I’ve done this shop before, my products do sell and they do really well. :))
They sell online.
I have returning customers.
I’ve built something I’m proud of.
A year ago, I would have given anything to have consistent online orders each month… and now I do.
I am good enough.
My business is good enough. I am learning and I’m growing all the time. Every experience teaches us something!
But also… it wasn’t all negative 🤍
The girls I was in the shop with made such a difference - chats about life, space 🚀🪐, books 📚 and business (made some friends for life 💖).
Getting to spend that time with other small business owners - Emily with her beautiful terrariums .mk and May with her stunning tumblers made the experience extra special and not forgetting the lovely Hilary and with her wonderful jewellery.
Meeting the lovely people in the Harpenden community is always something I love doing. Chatting with everyone and hearing which candles are their favourites.
So I’m choosing to take the lesson, keep the good parts, and leave the rest behind.
Take a deep breath and reset.
And… today looks a little different - I’m preparing my first corporate order 🤍
