PATTERN CLASH:
Mixing up patterns, colours and textures is a trick I use to add visual interest and personality to a design scheme. Of course, you can dial them up or down, according to the style of your room and excitingly, in this maximalist scheme I was able to go wild with the layering throughout this space.
What was once a bland and uninspiring corner of the room, now pulls you over and says hey, sit down a while and get comfy! From the fluted panelling, to the whimsical wallpaper, the bold clashing cushions to the tactile sheepskin, these layers add personality and vibrance whilst also appealing to our senses, which is what draws us in.
If you're looking to update your own space, layered soft furnishings can be a quick and low risk investment to help you explore your taste. And who knows, you may end up discovering your own inner wild child!

GAME ON:
While scrolling through project photos trying to work out what to share with you next, this image struck me.
With Sundays often being about relaxing with family and friends, winding down and maybe grabbing a board game, this simple noughts and crosses set made me think about how with a little strategy and planning from the opening turn, you can control the outcome.
I won't sugar-coat living through a renovation or a new build, because it can be tough! It is messy, stressful and rarely feels straightforward while you are in the thick of it. However, going into a project with a crystal-clear interior design plan changes the game entirely.
When you map out your interior spaces, decide furniture layout, plan lighting and electrics, select materials, plan window dressings and specify decorative surfaces all before the builders even arrive, you eliminate the frantic, last-minute decision fatigue.
This is the power of interior design and particularly, involving us from the outset. It won't stop the dust, but it certainly stops the panic, helping you feel in control of the outcome and achieve the winning results you have invested in.
A bit like that game of noughts and crosses!

TGI FRIDAY:
One of my key aims when working with clients is to create joyful spaces for them and I think this project ticks that box! What was once a dreary new-build kitchen, I redesigned to create this welcoming space, incorporating this bifold kitchen window bar.
After a searingly hot week's work, I know I'd love to wind down here, drink in hand, catching up with friends. Who else is in? 🍹

A LIBRARY THAT SHOUTS:
Quiet, peaceful and still, yet making the boldest statement, it was an absolute delight to design this library and games room for my fab client .
I knew I wanted to work with her as soon as she showed me plans for this library wall and apparently she knew she wanted to work with me after briefly visiting my home, which I'm told is playful, vibrant and welcoming. This project felt like a match made in heaven!
From the outset, I planned to arrange what was a vast imposing space (swipe to end), into distinct zones that felt cosy and welcoming, and SAY something about my vivacious client. Here you see I created a lovely reading area positioned by the French doors, framed by circus stripe curtains and contrasting fun floral wallpaper, where she enjoys a beautiful view over the countryside beyond. To the right is an inviting round games table and comfy toffee red upholstered chairs, offering a place to spend hours with the family playing games, and I hear, to sometimes host the odd client meeting.
All materials you see were rigourously tested to share the space with my client's gorgeously slobbery basset hounds who love to snuggle up to her - I always design my spaces to stand up to everyday life!
The result, I think, is a space that is oh so quiet and yet shouts the character of it's owner. I've fallen in love...

QUIET PLEASE?
I love it when I get to collaborate with clients who are willing to go all-in on bringing their personalities to life within a space and this project was an absolute joy in which to do just that.
Working with a bold bookcase my client had developed with plus sofas that were already selected, I encouraged to be unapologetic in her design choices within her private library. As a bookworm who spends hours reading, she was keen to carve out a space that felt deeply personal, inviting, fun and unique.
Inspired by some of my favourite library spaces, I was keen to design her a practical, multi-purpose layout that felt cosy and defined, all layered with a maximalist cloak of colour and pattern that brings joy every day.
Here, you see the games corner where the family gathers for hours of fun and, I hear, homework and occasional business meetings also happen - such is the pull of this space!
So whilst this library of dreams is often silent, the design is anything but quiet. Mission accomplished I reckon?

TEXTURE FOR THE WIN:
I love it when the postie arrives with samples for me to touch and feel, and to see alongside other elements of a room I've designed. It's a vital part of the design process to see how everything works together and avoids costly mistakes later on.
Here I talk about a simple approach to improving existing wardrobes that currently have very plain doors. These would make a massive improvement!
Can't wait to see which one the clients choose.

RETHINKING SPACES:
I was delighted to receive this little update from a client I worked with last year. The heritage kitchen that came with the property they purchased several years ago still had plenty of life left in it, but wasn't quite working for the family's needs.
I spent time understanding their needs, so I could propose a number of options that could work and meet their priorities. One involved adapting the tall storage cupboard in the far corner of the room, to incorporate an L-shaped dining banquette. They were quickly on board, as my visuals helped them see that not only would they continue to have a mix of open and closed storage, but they'd also increase their seating capacity to accommodate large family lunches and special occasions. Swipe to see the before photos of the storage unit that wasn't working for them.
We considered a number of smart fabrics for the banquette which was upholstered by and they plumped for this lush green wipeable velvet which pulls in the grassy tones from their beautiful garden outside.
So you can see, it's not always necessary to start again. With a little clever thinking, it's sometimes possible to repurpose what you've got and here, I think it worked out perfectly 💚

REFLECTIONS:
After an eclectic week in the life of an interior designer, involving a photoshoot, onboarding, sourcing and training, it's been nice to reflect on projects past, present and future. This role brings so much variety and that's something I love about my job.
From the first moment I meet my clients to the final day of the photoshoot and everything that comes in between, it's a journey that involves: creativity, psychology, complex calculations, experience, mediation, research, motivating, problem solving, persistence, vision, a ton of admin and hefty dose of good humour.
That's what it takes to create the kind of homes my clients want to live in and that's exactly what I'm here for. If you're embarking on a renovation or new build, planning an extension or simply looking to improve your home, I can offer you that too.
Happy weekends, all!

DO IT YOUR WAY:
I can't help but share a little sneaky peek taken yesterday early morning, while we styled my client 's new library ready for professional shots by
What a gorgeously inviting spot to sit with a cuppa, quietly read and watch the birds go by outside.
Loved seeing the breeze flicker at these wave curtains made by amazing Nicola , set to the backdrop of my client's fabulous statement joinery by
Unapologetically bold and uniquely hers - I am so glad Amy did it her way, in her library of dreams.
