Some of the most interesting homes are the ones that don’t feel as though everything arrived at the same time.

We love introducing new pieces, but we’re equally interested in what is already there.

An antique with a story. A piece of furniture a client has owned for years. Something inherited that perhaps needs a new setting to make it feel relevant again.

At The Heritage Home, this mix of old and new became an important part of the character of the rooms.

Contemporary pieces sit alongside antiques and more traditional details, giving the home a sense of history without it feeling stuck in the past.

For us, that’s far more interesting than starting again simply for the sake of it.

A home should have layers - including the ones that were there before us.

You don’t need to know exactly what you want before speaking to an interior designer.

In fact, most of our clients don’t.

You might know that your home no longer works as well as it could. You may have saved dozens of images but struggle to explain what connects them. Or perhaps you’re about to renovate an entire house and simply don’t know where to begin.
That’s completely normal.

Our job is to ask the right questions, listen carefully and gradually make sense of what matters to you - both aesthetically and in the way you want to live.

From there, we can start to turn lots of thoughts, ideas and practical requirements into one clear direction for your home.

The finished photographs are always lovely to share.

The middle of a renovation? Usually a little less glamorous.

There are stripped-back rooms, building dust, boxes, site decisions and moments when it can be difficult to imagine that the finished home will ever look quite like the drawings.

But this stage matters.

It’s where so much of the design starts to become real, and where keeping sight of the overall vision becomes particularly important.

We spend a lot of time moving between plans, samples, site and the finished design, checking that the decisions being made along the way still support what we set out to create.

Because there’s quite a journey between the first idea and the final cushion being placed.

And we’re there for much more than the pretty bit at the end.

We’re delighted to be finalists in the Best Businesswoman in a
Creative Business category at the Best Businesswomen Awards 2026.

After receiving Silver for Customer Service at last year’s awards, it
feels particularly special to return this year with recognition for
the creative side of the business.

By Two Studio has evolved enormously over the past year, but what sits
at the heart of it hasn’t changed - creating thoughtful, considered
homes and making the experience of getting there as enjoyable and
reassuring as possible for our clients.

For us, creativity isn’t only about how a home looks. It’s in the
problem-solving, the conversations, the ideas that are questioned and
refined, and the hundreds of decisions that eventually come together to create somewhere that feels completely personal to the people living there.

We’re looking forward to celebrating alongside all the other finalists
at the awards in October.

We’ve never believed a home needs to shout to make an impression.

For us, the rooms that stay with you are often the ones that feel quietly considered.

The proportions feel right, the materials sit comfortably together and there is enough detail to make the space interesting without everything competing for attention.

Most importantly, it still feels like a home.

That balance is something we’re always looking for in our work - spaces that feel refined and individual but also relaxed enough to live in.

Beautiful now but designed with the years ahead in mind.

What are we really looking for during a design site visit?

For Natalie and Jenna, it is an opportunity to step into the space as it takes shape and carefully review the details that will influence the finished home.

On this visit, we checked the cabinetry against the technical drawings, reviewed finishes, advised on positioning and proportions, answered questions and identified anything that needed correcting.

This ongoing involvement forms part of our Design Implementation Oversight service. It helps keep decisions aligned with the agreed design and ensures the details considered during the design process are carried through on site.

Because a beautifully resolved home is shaped not only by the initial vision, but by the many decisions made along the way.

Sometimes it’s one decision that changes the balance of a room.

In The Heritage Home, that was allowing space for the piano within the open-plan sitting room. Rather than feeling we needed to fill every part of the room with furniture, we wanted to give the piano its own place and enough space around it to feel intentional.

It’s a good example of something we think about a lot when designing a room: just because there is space, it doesn’t necessarily need to be filled.

These are the details we spend a lot of time considering.

Not because every element needs to demand attention, but because when the individual decisions are right, the room starts to feel right as a whole.

This is one of our favourite parts of the design process - looking, questioning and refining until there’s nothing that feels unnecessary or unresolved.

One of the questions we come back to at the beginning of a project is a simple one: how do you want your home to feel?

Clients often come to us with images they love, colours they’re drawn to or a good idea of what they don’t want. All of that is useful, but it’s only part of the picture.
We also want to understand how they want to live.

Perhaps the house needs to feel calmer. More grown-up, but never formal. Better for entertaining. Easier for family life. Or simply more like them than it does now.
Those conversations give us far more to work with than choosing a style ever could.

Because ultimately, we’re not trying to give every client a By Two Studio ‘look’.

We’re trying to create a home that feels completely right for the people living in it.
