We're really proud of this one. A brand new Markilux 990 full cassette awning fitted to a beautiful new build property in Lifton, Cornwall, perfectly matched to the architecture and doing exactly what it should, keeping that outdoor space cool and comfortable throughout the day.

But there's a lot more that goes into a job like this than most people think and we want to share why getting the survey and specification right makes all the difference.
It's not just about the awning. It's about the science of shade.

When our surveyors visit a property we don't just measure the wall. We look at the orientation of the building, where the sun sits at different times of day and how much of the terrace or patio needs to be covered at peak hours. Only then do we work out the ideal width, projection, and pitch angle for the awning.

Here's why each element matters:
🔹 Width Needs to cover the full usable area, not just the doors or windows. Get this wrong and you're sitting in direct sun at the edges.
🔹 Projection This is how far the awning extends outward. Too short and the afternoon sun angles underneath it. The Markilux 990 extends up to 3 metres but the right projection for your space might be quite different.
🔹 Pitch Angle This is critical. The Markilux 990 can be set at angles up to 70°, which is ideal when the sun is lower in the sky. A steeper pitch gives better shade in the morning and evening and a shallower one works better at midday. Getting this dialled in means you're shaded properly throughout the day and not just for an hour in the afternoon.
The Markilux 990 is a premium German engineered full cassette awning, compact, sleek and incredibly tough. When it's retracted everything disappears neatly into the 125mm cassette, keeping the look of this stunning new build completely clean.
