One of the privileges of being Rural Dean for the Biggleswade Deanery is that I get to travel around the 19 different parishes (4 of which are our own Benefice) and speak to the people who worship and look after the church in their particular parish. To spend time with those people; listen to their woes and their joys, is an honour. Sometimes it is difficult to fit those meetings into a busy schedule, but it is important that I do find the time to make a visit to each church over the summer months.
Some of these issues we face in society are to do with the well-being of people, and there are many examples where people who are struggling with life do not or cannot find a person to share their difficulties with so that they can find support and encouragement. We are encouraged by different agencies to find time to talk about those things that are causing us difficulties. I often wonder how many tragedies might have been avoided if there could have been someone to talk to, and unload their worries and concerns. This morning there was a case on television where the coach of a prominent women’s football team had taken his own life, when on the outside everything seemed successful and rosy.
As we journey along life’s path, we encounter many difficulties and tricky situations; and to have the option to share with someone is important as a release to the tensions that exist. Equally it is important to spend time in prayer – to find a quiet space in your busy diary – and share your cares and concerns with God. Some people regard having a faith as a crutch, but for many it is being able to share with and have trust in, a God who cares and loves each and every one of us.
May I wish you God’s love and peace
