Based right here in Scarborough, Stephen specialises in patchwork, quilting and fabric craft workshops!
On the day, Stephen will be bringing some haberdashery items, ready made bags, project bags, quilt patterns and project kits - perfect whether you're an experienced quilter or looking to explore a different side to the stitching world!
So happy to be welcoming another local creative business to the fair! 🤩

One of the questions that came up at crochet last night -

🧶 Which is easier, knitting or crochet? 🤔

My answer?
I think knitting is easier to learn, but crochet is easier to fix when you make a mistake 😅

🧶 Crochet is quicker to work up and much more forgiving once you've got the hang of it

🧶 Knitting is often easier to pick up in the beginning, but dropping stitches can be a bit trickier to put right!

Crafts & Haberdashery in Whitby 🧶🪡

Maria runs her own lovely craft shop in Whitby, selling yarn, fabric and accessories and I am delighted that she will be joining us for the day!
She will be bringing a selection of Sirdar and Hayfield yarns, patterns and 100% cotton fabric Fat Quarters - perfect for knitters, crocheters and anyone who can't resist having a rummage through fabric! 😊

Next up, you have recommended we try CaffeRoyale ☕️

We're happily testing out cafes and restaurants in Scarborough for those of you visiting us for The Stitching Fair at Scarborough Spa in August so you can make a day of it, or for anyone visiting Scarborough at any time really!
(And we're quite enjoying having an excuse to try some new places locally!)

Cafe Royale is on the South Bay, near the Marine drive, about a 20 min walk from Scarborough Spa.

You said "A good one is the Cafe Royale (I think its called!). The old arcade just near Luna Park, great cakes and toasties 😋"

And we can confirm, the cakes are good!

✨️ I had: Galaxy Slice
✨️ Huw had: Malteaser Cheesecake

With coffees, it cost us £18.95
It's a busy little spot with a great selection of pastries, bagels, croissants and toasties. As well as coffees, frappes, flavoured hot chocolates, prosecco and the cocktails sound amazing too!

If there are any other cafes, restaurants or hidden gems you'd like us to try and share with visitors, let us know! It's a hard job but someone's got to do it 🤷‍♀️😅💙

And keep an eye out tomorrow morning - we'll have another stallholder announcement! 🤩

Rainy days on your holiday? ☔🧶🪡

We've had a few lovely visitors in this week who have run out of yarn 😱 while they're away or decided they fancied a new project while the weather isn't quite beach weather! 😅

So if you're in Scarborough and wondering what to do this afternoon, why not pick up a ready to stitch project?

An embroidery kit for the hotel room, a crochet blanket to work on with a nice cup of tea or knitting for a new baby while listening to the rain outside the caravan! 💙

Sometimes the cosiest holiday memories aren't the sunny ones!

We're less than a 10 minute walk from the train station and open today from 10am - 4pm 😊

Little Wolf Designs 🪡

Ashley-Rae is based in York and makes whimsical hand embroidery kits, you may have seen them in the shop before, along with her sewing themed jewellery!
Little Wolf Designs was born from a love of exploring nature and new places. All her kits are inspired by places she has visited within the UK or places she has travelled to. On the day, Ashley will be bringing her Botanic hand embroidery kits, perfect for any nature lover!

Yes, we stock both DMC and Anchor embroidery threads!

Whether you're topping up a few colours for a project, starting something new or trying to match a shade, you'll find both ranges in the shop!

We also stock 14 count aida, elbesse and bamboo hoops, needles and kits, so hopefully everything you need for your next stitchy project! 💙🪡

I'd love you to help create a special community display for The Stitching Fair this August!

The theme is:
✨️ What Scarborough Means To You ✨️

Create a 10cm x 10cm square using any textile craft you like:
🧶 Knitting
🧶 Crochet
🪡 Hand Embroidery
🪡 Cross Stitch
🪡 Needle Felt
🪢 Macrame
🪡 Sewing
✨️ Or any other textile art!

Your square could be: 🌊 A seaside scene 🦀 A favourite Scarborough memory ☀️ Colours that remind you of the town 🐦 A seagull 🏰 The castle 🍦 Ice cream 💙 Or simply something that feels like Scarborough to you!

There are no rules beyond the size - just a 10cm x 10cm piece inspired by our beautiful seaside town

All of the squares will be brought together and displayed at The Stitching Fair at Scarborough Spa, creating a collaborative piece of community artwork for everyone to enjoy!

Need supplies? Pop into the shop and I'll happily provide fabric or scraps from my stash or simply use materials you already have at home

📅 Please bring your finished square to The Stitching Lady by Saturday 1st August 2026

Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced stitcher, I'd love for you to take part 💙
